Deadpan's Thoughts
I write about my thoughts and experiences through the day.
BEST TRIP EVER!
I have waited for this trip for a week. Today we went to THE definitive Texas historical marker; the Texas monument. It's this towering monolith made from rock with fossils in it or, fossiliferous rock, with the Star of Texas which happens to be on our state flag. There on that marshy, grass-up-to-your-a-horse's-belly prairie, the final battle between Mexican and Texan forces fought for the control of Texas once and for all. Enough of the history of Texas. At 12:00 we all waited outside the science building while our professor, Mr.Dobberstine, brought the church-y van to our location. Needless to know, I thought we were going to get in the water and net some coastal critters like Shrimp and hopefully some fish.[Justin the Student Instructor did, so, we hate him] I brought my wading boots and wore a pair of shorts under my jeans. Yup, I was ready to rip my pants off and jump in that water and catch some critters. I'm glad I didn't since it's the middle of winter and I completely forgot that it's still cold. We all pile up in the van and I'm sitting next to Eunice. She wasn't wearing sunglasses for the first time since I first saw her. She definitely looked better without them. It's a good look for her. Which reminds me, her aunt is from Cambodia so, she's got some Asian in her. I lightly commented on my mixed heritage[down the line, NOT a mulatto, MILK!]. I compared to her a half Filipina girl I knew and their facial features were similar to each others except Eunice has puffier cheeks. Just saying, not that it's a bad thing. The bad thing is she was sick the whole time. She said she was sick the whole weekend before and that she even had to leave work early and slept til 6 that Monday.[I'm guessing] She also remarked that she is anemic which contributed to her yellowish skin. I never noticed since she was Mexican after all. Again, didn't bother me. Also, it's hard for her and her brother to get a good night's sleep. I can only barely relate to her though. She gets way less sleep than I do. I noticed that she tended to walk ahead of the group and stood by herself. Since I am innately drawn to some people who are by themselves, I felt compelled to walk beside and chit chat with her. It was sort of off and on. If were both weren't under the weather and the whole situation was a little better, maybe it could have taken off. I will be sitting next to her from now on, so, I know we'll get pretty close. It happens when you talk to me if I like you. I really should have spent more time with her since I'll be moving up to the front next to her and Robert next to Karissa. WHICH brings me to Karissa. We met when ROBERT somewhat drafted me to go to a seminar with Karissa since she doesn't like going anywhere alone. I think of it as more a two birds, one stone thing. We all need to check out an environmentally focused seminar for a grade, so, I un-officially said yes in so many words. She drafted me as well. She was very enthusiastic about it too. lol. Rob says she likes me. I highly, highly doubt it. So, I'm a little ripped from working out, confident, funny, and hard-to-get, doesn't mean she wants me. I've set that idea aside. I'll see. If she does, hey, good for her. If not, I'm indifferent about it. Moving along, let me describe Karissa from what I saw today. She is easy to get along with, she laughs a lot which is awesome since smiles are contagious, she's energetic and just a great, down-to-earth person you can relax with. Definitely girlfriend material if anyone is interested. I bet you've noticed that I talk a lot about my experiences with friends in detail. Ok, so since pretty much the beginning of the trip me and Robert were just teasing her all day. I would basically brush her friendly comments and make "yack yack yack" symbols when she would talk to me. All in good fun, of course. The tables turn as we were walking through some standing water and since I had waders I stepped somewhat through the puddles and slid a little. Rob laughed a little and Karissa was just rolling. They did not hide the fact that if I did fall, they would never let me live it down for the rest of my life.>_> As the park rangers gave us a tour of the trails and the historical and economical importance of this ecological system we bore left we came to a metal railing meant to keep out cars and at the spurning of my friends', I tried to limbo it. Didn't happen. I fell on my butt. Didn't hurt, as Justin said it "Walk it off". and I agree 100% with that statement. The rest of the trip is really nothing more than constant busting on each other and getting our shoes dirty the whole way. God, that trip is THE best trip of the year. Nothing like hanging out with friends who know how to enjoy life and just laugh all the time. By the way, she must be really chill with me already since she decided we should all go out to a restaurant near the end of the month. I was like, "you serious?", we just met. Iunno, maybe she's the insta-friend type. Who knows? Also, she also suggested we all take a class together. Lol, that girl is a trip.
