• t's not like I was oblivious to the fact that she had a boyfriend. It was just that she was oblivious to my feelings, the electricity that sparked when our eyes met, etc. She was in her own world that I knew I had no part of. She would come dancing into study hall and twirl as a fairy. I don't think anyone knew where her head was half the time. All she was to me was a brunette, American, Alice.

But really, her name was Kelsey Anne Bale. And I was madly in love with her.

"Mr. Tyson, Mr. Tyson..." Mr. Brown's voice thundered.
"Oh, uh, yes sir?" I stuttered.
    "Are you with us now?"
    "Yes, sir."
"Very good then. Let's continue through the writing of Henry David Thoreau."

I ran my hand through my hair and tried to stay focus.

"Hehe, good job, Blake." Kelsey giggled.
"Oh, hush." I whispered back. Her response? She stuck her tongue out at me and continued with her notes.

We sat next or near each other in every class we had together. Civil Disobedience was a little too over my head or just not interesting enough to hold my attention. My eyes begin to wander around the room as I watched all the other seniors continue to take their notes. I was so ready to be out of this place, or at least this room. My eyes then danced towards Kelsey. Her hand was on her neck to keep her hair all on one side while her other hand jotted down words and drew little hearts on the side. I then noticed her shivering. She was wearing just a t-shirt as the rain poured and it had to be about 40 outside and 50 in this class room. Both her hands then rubbed the skin of her arms as an attempt to become warm.

"Here, Kels." I whispered as I slipped my jacket onto her desk.
"Thanks." she said with a small smile.

The bell rang, and there she went with my jacket on her along with all the eyes of the girls in the room. My most recent ex-girlfriend seemed to have daggers coming from her eyes towards Kelsey and then turned to give me a stab with her eyes.

In Social Studies, she sat behind me. I stretched my arms all the way until my hands were in front of her. I quickly felt a little high five from her tiny hands. A smile spread across my face, and my arms went back further. She giggled and moved back away from them. I finally found her head and placed my hands around her ears through her thick hair. My head leaned back and somehow I pressed our foreheads together. Kelsey seemed to smile, but quickly pulled away. Taking a glance around the room, I saw everyone had been staring at us. Mr, Welds hadn't started class yet and normally people just talk among themselves. But instead, they had all been watching Kelsey Anne and I.

"She has a boyfriend ." some girl from the back hissed.

Kelsey looked shattered, and she quietly slipped off my jacket. She pushed it to me without a single glance and just a muttered "thank you." Then class started, and so did the whispers.

The bell rang, and she was the first one out of the room.

"Kelsey! Kels!" I called after her. She finally stopped in the crowded hall way.
    "Uh, yeah?"
"Look, I'm sorry...if that was weird. I mean we are friends right."
"It's okay. I just need to remember...that I do have a boyfriend. And we are friends. We're best friends."
    "Promise?"
    "Pinky promise."

Her pinky interlocked with mine, and like a vapor she was gone.
