• SIDE STORY 5 PART 2 - SENTENCED TO KILL

Just when you assumed you were out of the rut, you're sucked back in.

    .:{{Kai's Perspective}}:.

On my wrist bore the mark of a contract I had been involuntarily bound under. That Arisa girl's blood could grant immortality and Hisao was willing to allow Minoru and Kaiba to devour her. They had both been working for Hisao for the past one hundred thirty-seven years. They were taunting me for the pity I showed for the girl and they only made it worse.

"Your duty is to bring the girl back here when it's time," Hisao ordered.

"You want me to kill her?" I hissed.

Hisao smirked, "Not kill her directly, but you'll guide her to her death,"

    "You're sick," my fists clenched.

"She has nothing to live for anyways," he pointed out. "She's lost her other half and her parents; she has no purpose anymore."

He had a point; would she truly mind dying? I would imagine she had never been drug into the world of Vampires before, so wouldn't that make dying even more appalling? The image of her in her slumber reiterated itself again and I clenched my jaw, my emotions going wild.

"You can choose whenever you want to have her to yourself," Hisao spoke up. "Just be sure to have her before Minoru and Kaiba opt to have her."

"Why would you do such a thing?" I spoke to Hisao but glared at Minoru. "She's just a child."

"Pre-humans are disgusting," Hisao spat. "We're having you bring her to watch your heart tear in two at the sight of her death."

I paused, "Then I'll just bring her the day she's to be devoured,"

"Not such a grand idea," he ran his hand through his hair. "She's now more vulnerable to Vampire attacks and Vampire-related deaths since her sister is now dead; the Vampires know she had the good blood now."

"s**t," I cursed under my breath. The conversation wasn't heading in a good direction.

"It would be a bad omen for you to fall in love with her," Hisao smirked coyly. "But it would be interesting for Minoru and Kaiba and I."

"I won't," I hissed. "I've had enough with women ever since Ayame."

"We'll see how that works out for you," Minoru chuckled sinisterly."But damn, Ayame was some hot stuff."

"So here's the deal," Hisao barged in. "You can abstract the girl whenever you want, so long as she's not killed before you get her. When the time comes that Minoru and Kaiba desire her blood the most, the contract will gradually take over you until you deplete almost every ounce of control."

It was queer; I was feeling more sorrow for the girl about dying than for myself about having to bring her to her death. There wasn't a single day that passed that made me wish I was still human; I wouldn't be stuck in such a tight spot. I was trapped in the rut again with no way out except to kill. It was all involuntary; if I wouldn't have been sentenced to kill the girl, I'd have simply shrugged the guilt of her parents' deaths eventually.

"Escort him out of here, Minoru," Hisao ordered. "We most likely won't see him often until the contract is up to date."

Before Minoru escorted me out, he pressed his gun against my back and fired. I jolted forward and no noise escaped my lips but plenty of blood circumvented from my heart. The bullet had shot through my back and my heart. I hacked more blood out of my mouth and as soon as Minoru tried to grapple my arm, I shoved him away with a deep growl vibrating up my chest and out my throat. I escorted my own self out, cursing them under my breath. They were such monsters; she was only a girl.

"Kai, what happened to you?" Matsuda interrogated as soon as I took seven steps into the house.

    "It's nothing," I hissed.

He grappled my sleeve and turned me around, "Did you...kill the Kurabashis?"

My lips pursed together, "No, I backed out,"

He sighed out of relief, "That's good; where are they now?"

    "Dead,"

Matsuda froze, "The others killed them?"

My answer was with silence and I headed into the kitchen to clean myself off. Matsuda never bothered to ask what they did to me; he could clearly scrutinize where the blood stains came from. It was silent the whole time I cleaned myself up after Matsuda held my shirt for me. The bullet wounds had dissipated but the blood was excessive. The scent of Orihime came up through the scent of dried blood and I glanced over to see her wrap her arms around one of Matsdua's with concern etched on her face.

"What did they do to you?" she gasped, flabbergasted by the scent of blood. If she would have seen the blood, she'd have surely gone berserk.

"They just shot me a couple of times," I replied apathetically while shrugging. "It's no big deal."

"He didn't kill the Kurabashi parents," Matsuda whispered to Orihime. "The other Vampires did."

    "Why? Was Kai not there?"

    "I backed out," I admitted. "I couldn't do it."

"That's good, but..." Orihime paused, "...they're still dead...poor Arisa."

I glanced over at them, "You know her name?"

"We're Angels, Kai," Matsuda pointed out.

"Well..." I paused, opting whether or not I should tell them. "You'll be meeting her in person sometime."

Matsuda's eyes widened, "You can't be serious," he knew what I was talking about.

"A contract," I hissed. "They placed me under a contract."

"Oh no," Orihime's hand covered her mouth.

"Minoru and Kaiba are Hisao's most loyal workers," I looked away. "They want me to bring the girl to them so they could devour her...for immortality."

The silence was nearly unbearable, but surprisingly pleasant at the same time. Their staring, however, was becoming uncomfortable. A growl ripped through my chest and my fists clenched together. As soon as I tried to escape from the kitchen, Matsuda held me back by my bicep.

"Kai, we need a plan," he informed.

"What plan?" I hissed at him. "There's no way to keep her safe."

"But we can keep her safer for longer if we bring her here as soon as possible,"

"It's not my plan to be near her,"

    Matsuda sighed, "Kai, just listen,"

"What is there to listen to?! She'll die anyways!" I blustered just as Kira came into sight.

"Who's going to die?" Kira spoke up, concerned.

I glared at him, "It's none of your goddamn business,"

"Kai, calm down," Matsuda informed. "Just hear me out."

    I looked away, "Fine,"

"We need to bring her here as soon as possible, but now is presumably the worst time,"

    "And why is that?"

"She's in the hospital," Matsuda pursed his lips together. "The Vampires injured her severely."

Was it her blood I could scarcely trace behind the overwhelming scent of her parents' blood? It must have; but why would the others try to kill her? I would imagine they probably headed back into the house after I departed.

"What did they do to her?" I asked in a mumble. It was surprising how concerned I was becoming about a human.

"They attempted to suffocate her and it ended up severely bruising her throat," Matsuda looked down sadly, "and they shattered her left wrist."

If her injuries were so severe already--after almost a day after the murder--then I couldn't fathom the attacks that would occur later on. She could very well be killed the next time a Vampire finds her...even me.

"One year from now, we'll bring her here," Matsuda declared. "We need to grant her time to recover from her losses and injuries. I will inform you on which orphanage she moves to."

"Fine," I mumbled and left right away, leaving Kira in confusion.

I made my way to my bedroom as Matsuda explained everything to Kira. I didn't mind; Kira would find out eventually anyways. I couldn't just arrive at the front door with a kidnapped girl in my arms. I collapsed on my bed and hissed once more at the situation I was trapped in.

The more I thought of the girl's blood, the more I was...desiring it for myself. If I would become immortal before Minoru and Kaiba, they wouldn't have that opportunity...would they? What if I was careful enough as to drink enough blood but have her survive? I didn't know if it would be possible, but would it actually work? Immortality...

...I didn't want to think about it anymore, but the thought was getting to me. The more I thought of immortality, the more and more I wanted it. But it would be in a year...I was sure I could wait until then. But...I would probably kill her. No, I would drink as much as what would be required, but I would make sure she would survive.

"s**t," I hissed under my breath.

The bitterness I felt towards women ever since Ayame left hadn't decreased a bit. Of course I still trusted Orihime; she was an Angel. That Arisa girl would just be another insignificant woman in my life; why was I getting all worked up about having Minoru and Kaiba kill her? Of course it's crude, but what if she was just as rancid in the inside as Ayame was? I couldn't assume all women were like that...I was too lost in debating with myself; my mind wouldn't make itself up.

I never would have imagined that a year later, standing in the windowsill of the orphanage, that I would possess the feeling of danger for Arisa and I. The instant I laid my eyes on her once more--a year since her parents' death--I felt a sort of connection. The instant I touched her, my desire for immortality increased at the scent of her blood and I feared for her life. Who'd have assumed that only a couple of months after she came into our family forcibly, that we would fall in love and my desire for immortality be thrown out the window? Who'd have though that I was the one who would bring my precious Arisa to her death?
