• (Leon’s Point of View)

Raine.. my sweet Raine. Why did you come to meet Lucien alone knowing it was a trap?

I laid her head gently in my lap brushing hair out of her face. A muffled jingle came from her skirt pocket and easing her up gently I pulled out the phone my mother had given her.

“Hello?” I answered in a strained voice from trying not to cry.

“Leon, dear. Is that you?” said my mother.

Hearing my mom’s voice brought up all the tears I had been trying to hold back. I took a few deep breaths before saying, “Mother, I don’t know what to do!” My words were coming out all jumbled but I couldn’t stop, “Raine won’t stop bleeding. She’s not healing fast enough.”

There was a gasp then my mother ordered, “Turn her, Leon.” I was about to protest angrily but she continued. “I know you don’t want to put her through the pain but would you rather have her die?” Of course I didn’t want her dead but I saw Bradly’s turning. He’s a big man and even he was clawing at himself and screaming.

Shuffling and Pheobe was on the other line, “Leon just do it! We’ll be there in a couple minutes.” Click, she hung up. Doesn’t anyone say good-bye anymore?

But that’s all it took. I moved Raine, cradling her head in my arms. Since she had already lost so much blood I made my fangs come down using them to cut a vein on my wrist. Blood bubbled up and I placed it against her slightly opened mouth.

I made sure she swallowed enough before licking the cut on my wrist, closing the wound. Here goes nothin’. I found a large vein in Raine’s neck and bit her. My fangs sucked up the blood and after I looked the wounds closed.

It would take hours before the nanos got far enough into her blood stream to start fighting off her blood cells. Once that happens she’ll be in so much pain. I hope she doesn’t hate me for making this decision for her. I’m just not ready to give her up.

There still so much I want to learn about her and so much I have to tell her. I still can’t believe I told her I loved her. It had slipped out before I could take it back. Not that I didn’t mean it! I truly do it’s just.. I don’t want to scare her away.

Raine’s wound was already healing. But the nanos are using a lot of blood she doesn’t have to do this. She’s going to need blood.. very soon.

Pheobe came running in so fast she broke the door off it’s hinges. She dropped the door and rushed over kneeling next to me.

“Jeez Pheobe,” I said with a mocking smile. Pheobe tended to forget her own strength when she got to worried.

She rolled her eyes at me. “Shut up.” Now more serious, “Is she okay? Did you turn her?”

“What is this twenty questions?” I joked trying to make light of the subject. She glared at me. “Yes I turned her..”
Pheobe kept looking at Raine as if she were some fragile jewel. “Alright, let’s get her in the car and take her back to the house. We can set up and IV stand and give her the drugs there,” she told me getting to her feet. I followed after her gently holding Raine.

My father was in the driver’s seat of the car. His dark hair combed back showing his model like features and silver eyes. When it came to my looks, I took after my dad.

Jeremiah, my dad, eyed Raine up and down skeptically. I climbed in the back and rested Raine in my lap, her head against my chest.

Jeremiah cleared his throat, “Your mother’s at home setting everything up.” I nodded looking down at the love of my life. I knew I hadn’t known her long but with the moments I’ve spent with her it’s like I’ve known her all my life. Like we were made for each other. She had so much pride and such a beautiful smile. She could be so graceful but at the same time get so easily pissed off.

A little later my father pulled up to our two story house, driving into the three-car garage. Mary-Anne came running down the steps and opened my door.

“Everything is ready up in your room,” she told me helping me out of the car. I practically flew up the stairs and into my room. Once there I laid Raine down on the bed. My mother wasn’t too far behind and came around me to hook up the IV of blood.

I remember using this for Bradly’s turning. The IV is used so only so much blood gets in the body at a time. Too much blood speeds up the turning and the pain will come too soon.

Raine started groaning in pain and her hands were fisted in the sheets.

“I thought I’d let you know, your cousins are down stairs. They came back with your father,” Mary-Anne told me before leaving. I sat next to Raine on the bed brushing my fingers along her cheek. Her eyes opened slightly for a moment but then fell closed. Leaning forward I kissed each eyelid.

It wasn’t long before she was writhing on the bed and whimpering. Her wound had healed fully but now she was clawing at herself.

“Mom!” I called down the stairs. Instead of just my mom, my whole family came into my room with either curious or worried faces. I was attempting to hold down Raine’s arms but she was too strong and now she was flinging her legs. My dad and Bradly rushed over to help hold down her legs. Brad ended up getting kicked in the mouth and sending him flying onto the floor. I winced when I saw his lip bleeding.

Jimmy, my cousin, laughed and walked over to help. He nearly got hit in the nuts but he dodged her leg. Bradly laughed at that as he wiped the blood trickling down his chin.

While we were trying to hold down Raine my mother was getting the drug ready. It took three people to hold down her arm so mom could inject her with the needle but when she did Raine almost immediately calmed down.

Raine went back to whimpering and twisting in her sleep. While we had the chance we tied her arms and legs down to the bed rails. It wasn’t for awhile that she started pulling at the rope we used to tie her and she started screaming.

Every time I heard that blood curling cry come her mouth it tore at me. My mother gave her the drug again and I changed the IV blood bag occasionally. Eventually she stopped and laid still. It was the longest and scariest moment of my life.

Now all I could do was wait till she woke up to see the results. After staying up for 36 hours straight, I fell asleep holding her next to me.
