• Murphy’s face went pale, and his hands began to shake. “ Amilee...wha... how can I see you?” “I dont know, Im still trying to find that out.” I replied ending the conversation. Murphy looked bewildered, but who wouldn’t be if they were talking to a ghost! I sighed sadly, not wanting to say much more, especialy since I dont remeber how I died. I began to walk backwards, but then Murphy stopped me. “Amilee, where are you going?” he asked me, worried. “I don’t know.” I replied after a wile. “Lets go back into my cabin, it’ll be nice to have a bit of company...” There was a look of sympathy in his eyes, and a hint of pain. I nodded and followed him, not wanting to be alone. Murphy’s cabin was small looking on the outside, with another building for the injured animals that need medical attention. Inside Murphy’s cabin was bigger than most would have expected, but very simple. there was a small fireplace with a mantle adorned with many pictures. some in black and white, some in color. The kitchen was large, with all the basics, and a large table in the middle with three chairs. On his walls were paintings of nature by Thomas Kenkade, and some he painted himself. in the middle of the cabin, there is a few sofas, and a rocking chair. and off to the farthest cornner was two beds. One for Jackie, his german sheperd, and one for him. Jackie came trotting to Murphy as we walked in the door, but stopped suddenly as I came in behind him. “I think Jackie can see me.” I whispered. Jackie went back to his little bed by Murphy’s, never taking his eyes off me after he sat down. I admit, it was a bit freaky, but I just shrugged it off. Murphy walked into the kitchen, and I followed. Not because I was hungry, but I realy wanted to talk to someone. I stood by the chairs wile Murphy got a cup of coffee for himself. He sat down in the chair next to me, and took a sip of his coffee. “I would get you somthing to drink Amilee, but I think it’ll go right through you!” exclaimed Murphy before bursting into uproarious laughter. I gave a weak smile to him. Good ol’ Murphy, always trying to make me laugh. “Sorry Ami, Not the best time for a joke.” I sighed. “Its alright Murphy.” There was a short moment of silence, then Murphy broke it. “So, what happened to you... How did you kick the bucket?” he asked, a bit somberly. “I dont know, I just remember going to sleep.”Murphy nodded. “Well, at least you died peacefuly in your sleep.” “Yeah, I guess... It dosen’t change the fact that I’m dead.” “But its better than being murdered.” “Are you sure that I wasn’t when I was sleeping?” I replied hotly, making Murphy flinch a bit. “Sorry... I’m just upset about my death.” I appologized, touching his arm slightly. Murphy jumped at my touch. “GAH! your hand’s cold! It gave me the chills down my spine!” he almost shouted. I pulled my hand back. “Sorry, I’m not used to it.” I sighed again. Jackie began to growl. I looked from Murphy to Jackie. “I should go now.” I said softly. Before they could stop me, I walked through the walls of the cabin. It felt strange having wood go straight through you, but not as strange as solid metal. I walked back through the gate, not wincing this time, and walked down the street. The rain had stopped now, revealing the moon. It must have been about midnight, for nobody else was arround. So I sat on a roof top, watching the stars for the rest of the nigt, seeing how I dont need sleep anymore, it got pretty boring, but I didnt care. when the sun began to peek above the horizon, thats when I decided to get moving again. before I leapt off of the rooftop, I began to think to myself. I wondered if like in this one TV show I saw, that ghosts were able to teleport. I began to think of the church, and that I wanted to go there right now. I blinked, then I was at the church! “Whoa...” I said outloud. I began to think of Corrie, and how I wanted to be by her side right now. I closed my eyes this time, and when I opened them, I was in a place that I had never been before. there were stones everywhere, all with flowers, and the occasional statue. I then realized where I was, I was at a graveyard! I looked to my left, there was a polished marble stone, and Corrie was walking up to it slowly. I took a guess that it was my grave. Corrie had a book in her hands, but why would she bring a book to my grave? I continued to watch her from a distance, she set the book down on the round by a few roses. “Hey... I never got a chance to give this back to you...” she said softly. I walked behind her and sighed. “I’m dead now, I don’t need the book, keep it.” I placed my hand on her shoulder, and she jumped and span arround, screaming. I jumped back. “Whoa! its me Corrie! Calm down!” she stopped screaming for a moment, but she looked bewildered. “Amille?! B-but you’re freakin’ dead!” I sighed. “You can see me to...” I said with a small smile. Her hands began shaking. “But if your d-dead... How are you right there?” “I’m a ghost Corrie. No one else but you and Murphy are able to see me.” Corrie began to cry again. “Amilee... I heard your voice at the funeral... You said that you would always be with me... Is this what you ment? are you EVEN Amilee?” she asked me suspiciously. I put my hand on my hips. “Test me.” I said in a bit of a sarcastic tone. “If you are Amilee, what is the name of the actor my mother is obsesed with because he’s in Lord of the Rings?” “Pfft, easy. Orlando Bloom.” I answered. Corrie put her hand over her mouth, then stood up and rushed over to hug me. the moment we touched, she jumped and stepped back. “Gosh Amilee! your so cold!” she shouted, she was happy to see me again Im sure of it, she was just in shock. “Oh crud!” she exclaimed. “Im going to be late for school!” I took a step forward. “I got you covered...” I then grabbed her hand, thinking about school. When I opened my eyes, we were outside the gates. Corrie gasped and let go of my hand, then realized where we were. “Wow...” “I know... One of the few benifits of being a ghost, I guess.” I said softly. Corrie began to walk up the steps, and I half walked half floated alongside her. When I was alive, Corrie and I were always tormented by Chloe and Gina, the two most popular, stuck-up, and snooty girls in the school. Infact, it wasnt just us, it was our whole group of friends, Corrie, Eddy, Diane, Charlie, and me. We were now at our locker, (we shared one because our school couldnt afford more) so far so good. Then, behind Corrie, a hand reached out and grabbed her. We both whirled around, and there were the two devils. There they were, in matching pink and black outfits that made them look like twins. “So your friend Amiloo or Amileen or whatever her name was died?” “Yeah thats what I heard... she like killed herself.” Corrie glared at the two of them, and I was resisting the urge to strangle them. “She did not kill herself, she died in her sleep!” Corrie snapped them. they just laughed like sissies. “Says uh, you!” “Yeah, how do we know that YOU didn’t kill her?” “WHY THE HELL WOULD I KILL MY BEST FRIEND?!?!?!” shouted Corrie, face turning red. “Because, she was a freak, just like you and your other friends. Someone was bound to do it sometime ya know!” “Yeah, people like her should have never existed.” Now I was angry. I looked to Corrie. “I’ll take care of them...” I then picked up a book from our locker, and noticed the terrified faces of the school bullies.I chucked it at them, sending them running and screaming for their lives. I ran after them, with another book in my hands. I smacked them both with it, then tripped them. Corrie was now laughing hysterically and they were screaming. I dropped the book just as the principal came out to yell at them for running and screaming in the halls. I began to laugh as well inspite of myself, then I walked with Corrie to her class. “Why are you even following me to school!” she asked, still laughing as the English class began to fill. I was sitting on her desk. “I may be dead, but I still want to be smart!” I said before sticking my tounge out at her. She didnt get a chance to backsass because the teacher started his lecture. The class began to read after a few minutes, so I began to walk arround. Nobody knows better than I do to leave Corrie alone when she reads. I walked in between the desks, survaying each face, sometimes making funny faces at them just for the fun of it. But they remained lost in their own worlds of various books. The bell finaly rang, and Corrie shut her book. I followed her through the halls as she went back to her locker to get out the other books she would need. When we got to her locker, I heard footsteps behind us. I turned arround to see Diane there, her glasses still stained with tears. “Hey Corrie...you doing okay?” she asked in a sympathetic tone. Corrie turned arround slightly. “yea, im doing fine, you?” “Ive seen better days, but im slowly getting over it.”I looked between my two best friends. Corrie knew I was there, but what about Diane? what would happen if she could see me to? “one way to find out...”I said outloud. “What?” asked Corrie turning to me slightly. “Corrie? who are you talking to?” Corrie turned quickly to Diane, i could see by the look on her face that she forgot that Diane couldnt see me. “er... no one?” she said, trying to cover it up. “Are you sure your okay? your acting strangly, and you look as if you’ve seen a ghost. “you have no idea...” mumbled Corrie. I tuned myself out at this point as I reached my hand out to DIane, slowly inching toward her shoulder. Corrie’s gaze shot at me, and I could feel the daggers burning a hole in the back of my head. “Amilee! Stop!” She cried out reaching twords me Diane didnt have time to react by the time I touched her shoulder, and Corrie ran straight throug me and tackled Diane. “What the heck!? Corrie, get off me!” exclaimed Diane as she caught her breath. Corrie hurriedly got off, then helped Diane up. I laughed slightly. “Nice job Corrie!” I giggled. Diane quickly turned in my direction and began screaming. thank god there was nobody else in the hall. “Shhhh! Diane its alright! its me!” “OH MY GOD! OH MY FREAKING GOD!” she shouted as Corrie grabbed her arm to calm her down. “Diane! stop! you’ll get the whole school out here!” Corrie scolded. Diane took a few shaky breaths before fainting. Corrie picked her up, grimmacing under the dead weight. “well, that went well.” she grummbled. “C’mon, lets get her outside before the teachers come back.” i replied cooly as we walked out the fron door to the yard. It didnt take long for Diane to awaken in the warm april weather. She blinked slightly, then leaned backwards and stretched. “what happened? why are we outside?” she asked Corrie. “You fainted. do you remember why?” She asked worriedly. I was standing behind Corrie, waiting for the right time to come out and let Diane see me. Diane looked up, trying to re-collect her thoughts. “I thought I saw the ghost of Amilee...but I didnt, did I?” she asked, you could hear the nervousness in her voice. “well...” Corrie began, scratching the back of her head. “Well what? ghosts arent real right?” “...about that...” “Just spit it out already Corrie!” That when I stepped out from behind Corrie. “You did see me Diane. I am here, Im real, just like before.”
