"Something to remember me by"
-
It was Saturday, March 13, 2008 I was on my way to the hospital to vist my best friend Julie. She had been diagnosed with cancer back in August. I went to the hospital everyday we would watch T.V., read books, and joke about the awful food.
But that was the Saturday I remember most. I walked in the room and found her puking. Her father was holding her hair back while she puked and when he pulled his hand away it was covered with curly blond hair. I noticed you could see every bone in her body and she was extremely pale she looked like chalk. The longer I stood there observing the bigger the lump in my throat got. I fought back many tears. She finished puking.
She laid down for a second, but when she saw me she smiled and tryed to sit up. I heard a loud crack it was her rib cage her bones were so fragile that she broke five of her ribs. Her father started shouting for a nurse to come.
Julie laid down and her eye lids closed after a few seconds the heart monitor started beeping. She had no pulse. The nurse came to late by the time her and the Three others got there Julie was gone there was no saving her. I cryed the tears came rolling out in a huge burst it was like my eyes were a shower head sputtering water down my cheeks. Her father slapped the nurse and said it was all her fault for not coming sooner. All the nurse could do was appoligize and give him a blue box with Julie's name on it.
Inside the blue box was a letter for me, a letter for her father, and her will. The letter said
Sorry I couldn't give you much and stay around longer you were such a great friend and I hope that you will meet a friend that's as good to you as you were to me. I hope you enjoy what i was able to leave you. It's just something to remember me by. Love Julie.
I couldn't fight the tears they came down now instead of a shower they came out like a hose gushing water everywhere. Her father read the will Julie gave me her favorite necklace crying it was the last thing her mother gave to her before she died, it was a silver heart on a powder blue lace.
I wore the necklace to the funeral. I've worn it everyday since that Saturday it's a little something to remind me of her.
