• Introduction

Everything seemed to slow down to the speed labored breaths causing his chest to heave, droopy lids fighting to reveal the reality of the chaos unfolding before him. The images were lost in his mind amongst the confusion of blood and teeth, and the scene played like an old movie, with it's film dancing, causing the images to distort and the sound to fade. With much struggle, the wolf's heavy head lifted off of the moist soil, his limbs tensing in an attempt to regain posture. Almost as if he had fallen through the sky and landed in the deepest depth of hell, he could feel the singing heat of fire flittering nearby.

With his eyes half open, he could spy the army of wolves before him; he could make out bared teeth, flailing limbs. The sight was horrifying, even though it was being seen through his hazy eyes. So much he wanted to help his comrades, but even as weak and confused as he was, he still knew this truth to be held; they could not win. A long since conflict had finally lit into an uncontrollable hatred, and it was now being seen before his eyes. The proof was the flames that was tearing across their beloved home, their sanctuary of Mother Earth; amongst the blurry images and the sounds he did not hear, he could hear the great Mother screaming.

The injured wolf's thoughts were quickly interrupted as a figure of another wolf crept towards him. Two big eyes of the deepest crimson were seen first, making the color of the blood flying look pale in comparison. They seemed to glow amongst a dark, shadow-like figure, strong and stout; and, as it seemed from his position, quite unharmed. The injured male could not be sure, but he was quite convinced that the sneer peeling across his lips were that of malice, and that this large male meant him harm. As the figurine drew closer, he could only stare in wonderment, with glossy eyes that foretold of his dire condition.

However, the sneer of this monstrosity twisted into a snarl as it's beaming eyes lifted from the weak form of the injured male, to just behind him. And, the injured male could not be sure what, but something had driven the male to back up, baring teeth in a most defensive way. But, there was no time to think; his lids becoming overbearingly heavy, the injured male fell deep into slumber, at mercy to whatever force may have driven this beast back.

However, the last image captured within his mind before he fell into unconsciousness was those deep, endless eyes. And it would be those very same eyes to haunt him.
