• Layna stared into the darkness of the room before her; the only light was from the doorway behind her, as the shadows captured the full moon’s familiar light.
    “Come on,”
“Yeah, Miss Mary won’t wait forever,” said her twin friends Mia and Leah.
“I’m going,” said Layna her voice shaking. She gulped and stepped in the cold bathroom, her nightgown swayed against her knees as the cold tile chilled her bare feet to the bone.
“Remember we’ll be right behind the door and we won’t let you out until we hear you say it at least four times,” Layna turned and watched as the twins slowly closed the door and then she heard the soft click of the door locking, taking away the precious light she had and trapping her in the cold lifeless room where she could she nothing but darkness. She felt around in her pocket for a moment and finally found the candle and lighter she had brought.
After she found her way to the sink by the dim glow of her candle stared into the mirror. With a sigh of hesitation she began the chant.
“Bloody Mary,” she said and slowly walked in a small circle. “Bloody Mary” she repeated as she again walked in a small circle “Bloody Mary” she said still circling she stared into the mirror in terror As legend had it if someone said Bloody Mary at night in front of the bathroom mirror that person would hear bells and then Bloody Mary would appear behind you and kill you. She listened but Layna could hardly hear a thing other her thudding heart. Then she heard something but she ignored it when she realized it was just chimes. Then it hit her.
“Chimes” She whispered to herself scared as she listened closer to the chimes tune she remembered the spooky tune from the story. Ever so slowly she looked in to the mirror. There was nothing there.
With a sigh of relief she turned and came face to face with piercing blood red eyes. Suddenly her legs gave out and she fell to the floor landing on her back, but she sat up quickly and stared in horror as she looked over the haunting in front of her. Ghastly white skin and hair with a pure white night gown that was spattered in blood, her hands cut and covered in blood but the thing that stuck out most was the ominous ring of blood around her neck. Layna tried to scream but nothing came out although the unmistakable fear in her eyes told more than words could ever explain.
“Yes” Mary said in a voice that echoed the fright of hearing a hungry wolf howling at the moon on cold night when you’re alone in the woods.
“You’ll do perfectly,” she said as she moved her bloody hands towards Layna’s neck. Finally Layna got a hold of herself; she got up and ran to the door
“Let me out!” She screamed as she banged at the door
“That wasn’t four times yet,” said Leah in a mocking tone
“Blood Mary” Layna sobbed as she banged on the door. When she heard footsteps behind her she began begging.
“Please… please” she cried out tears welling down her face
“The lock’s stuck it won’t budge!” said Mia. The footsteps got closer and closer until they stopped. For the second time that night Layna looked behind her and also for the second time saw those piercing eyes.
“Your friends can’t help you now, it’s just you and me” said Bloody Mary
“You can’t… You won’t get away with this” Layna said braver then she should have been
“On the contrary I already have.” said Bloody Mary. Then a shrill scream filled the night air.
Hours later when the police finally got their Bloody Mary had gone taking Layna’s innocent soul with her. Now when you go to Marie’s Medical Center and look in freezer box number 7119 you’ll see Layna with Mary’s signature blood ring around her neck and the cause of death you’ll get from the doctor, is simply she didn’t die from being strangled but from pure terror and blood so pure of evil touching her. When you look in bathroom 3A on the girl’s floor of Unison Preparatory you will see a half used candle burnt out, a small splash of blood by the door, and on the door are Layna's last three unmistakable words, BLOODY MARY LIVES.
