Believe it or not, Estefan is a king. At least amongst his own kind. You see, the Birds of Paradise lived in a place similar in vastness and climate to the Amazon rain forest - amongst many other kinds of birds and colorful creatures ranging from harmless to some of the most lethal. Among the canopy dwelling avians, however, it was the Greater Birds of Paradise who controlled this tropical harem. In close knit family clans they lived in cities built from the trunks of massive trees, stretching as far as the eye could see.
It was because of their giant, exuberant city that the creatures down below began to grow angry. The avian's city was so big it cut off the vital sunlight to the world below! Food sources could not grow, races began to wither and die. Those who could not fly or climb to the top of the canopy were doomed. This was not acceptable, so to pay for the avian's greed, the king of the serpents sent out assassins to kill the avian royalty, The Greater Birds of Paradise. Without them the city would fall into turmoil, the remaining clans feuding amongst themselves about who would come into power next. Inevitably they would destroy each other, returning proper balance to the worlds both above and below.
Estefan was just a young boy when this plan was hatched, first born heir of the King Bird of Paradise, his father, and Lesser Queen of Paradise. In total his mother had nine children including himself, five sisters and four brothers. He was at the age of fourteen when his father was murdered, and to keep balance Estefan as the eldest male was forced into marriage with his sister Felicia. Though his mother still acted as rightful Queen politically, it was he and his sister who were recognized the new King and Queen of paradise. A union he was none too happy about.
Needless to say he was not a very faithful husband, this fact becoming more obvious as he got older. Male concubines were not uncommon in the bed chambers of the king, who quickly became quite infamous for his one night stands of passion. Both he and his wife were content with this until the time came that his mother was too old to rule, and they were told, just as his mother and father were told when they first took the throne, that they would have to conceive a child together before they could officially take the throne. This child would then be bound by blood to the throne, and the one to inherit it should Estefan die like his father.
This was surely a disturbing thought to both of the siblings, who had, despite their seven year marriage, never shared a bedroom together except for their wedding night. But even then, they had no feelings for each other in that way - Estefan preferring men, and Felicia with her lover on the side. But with things steadily growing worse with the serpents, it seemed they had no other choice. It was the night before he was to mate with his sister that Estefan mysteriously disappeared, chosen from his race and taken to an island far away. Though, despite the possible death of his family riding on his conscience, he is quite alright with that!

Estefan possesses usable wings just like any other bird, except his are not really the type you'd think they'd be. Instead of protruding from his shoulder blades and extending out like most hybrids, his are connected to the back of his arms and travel up, where they connect on the inside of his shoulder. The top layer of flight feathers are a deep, velvety red, while the longer base feathers underneath are canary yellow with white tips. The markings seen on his face also continue down the back of his neck and back, where they stop short of his lower back and then twist around to the front of his hips. From there, they seem to disappear into his waist line.

Common to most song birds, Estefan possesses a singing voice that can put others into a trance. Aside from this he also has the ability to fly of course, and to manipulate wind currents with his wings. All three abilities used in combination make for an especially effective get away tactic. Weapons wise, he's been schooled in many useful poisons, smoke bombs, and herbal remedies. He's been known to use them to his advantage as well...
