Chapter Four: The Feudal Door
*BEEP! BEEP! *
*BE- BAM!*
I opened my eyes to watch the alarm clock hit the floor from the small table by my bed. Boy, do I hate those things.
Sunlight shone through the open window, as I pulled the covers off of me and stretched. Today was going to be a good day I just knew it. I then changed clothes quickly and struggled for a moment with the chain on the key necklace, before fastening the chain around my neck.
As the smell of pan cakes reached my nose, I raced out of the room, stopping only at Xaine's door to yell at him to get up, (which he responded to by flinging some fox fire towards the open door), sliding down the banister and running into the kitchen and grabbing a plate that I piled full of pancakes and settled down on the living room couch to watch cartoons.
As my mother reentered the room she chuckled at the absence of most of the pancakes and started cooking some more as Serna came in the kitchen through the open door.
"Dang Kiri!" she said looking at the almost empty pancake plate."you could have left some for me!"
"Sawe" I answered, my mouth full of pancake.
Serna then walked into the living room and grabbed one of my pancakes.
"Hey! pancake thief!"
"You're one to talk"
"Serna is right you know" Stated Xiane as he walked into the kitchen.
"Well It's not my fault you two were late" I replied while trying to defend my plate from Serna.
"Hey, I've been up for an hour moving stuff around in the storage buildings" Serna exclaimed for her defense.
"You're just slow then" Xaine replied as he stepped back out into the living room with more pancakes and claiming the other spot on the couch.
"Hey!"
"But it is true-"
"Shut up before I purify you!" I smiled as I watched the argument between my older siblings.
"Both of you stop talking!" My mother stated as she entered the conversation.
"Yes Okaa-san" My mother then handed a plate of pancakes to Serna as she sat down in the armchair.
" When you are done Kiri, could you go sweep the shrine steps?"
"Okay Okaa-san" I replied, getting up from the couch and putting my plate in the kitchen sink. I then ran outside to the storage building where my family kept the brooms. Before I could reach it though, the key pulsed.
I looked down at the key and held my breath as the key glowed green. I turned to my left to discover that a small door had appeared in the trunk of the sacred tree.
"Okay that was definitively not there before" I said to my self and walked towards the door. As I reached out to touch the handle,the door opened and I strong wind pushed me into the nothingness that awaited below.
