Chapter One: Work and Rain
"Uh, why do those teachers insist on torturing me!" yelled Kiri as she walked down the stairs in front of the red brick school. Her teachers had again loaded her up on homework, more, she noticed, then anyone else in the class. The teachers said it was because she didn't get any work done in class, but she had seen some of the other girls in her class do just about nothing but talk and paint their nails as Kiri worked hard at trying to get her work done. All of her other years in school, she had just chalked it up to being a trouble maker who wasn't afraid to talk back to her teachers, but now that she was in Jr. High School she understood why the gave her more homework. It was simply because she was a half demon, The only one in the entire school in fact.
"My life sucks!" she whispered to herself as she trudged home with her backpack. Then, as if her day couldn't get any worse, rain drops started to pelt from the sky.
"Murphy, why do you hate me so?" she asked the sky as she rain as hard as she could towards her home.
Several blocks later she came to a screeching halt at the bottom of shrine steps. The sign above the red gates could clearly be read as the ichidou no kaze, or the shrine of wind.
"I swear that the only thing that makes my life bearable is this shrine." I thought out loud.
The rain started coming down harder.
She ran up the stairs, not even caring that her feet barely touched the ground. All she wanted was to dry off and have some of her mother's home cooking.
"Okaa-san, I'm home!" *silence* "Okaa-san..?"
"I'm in the attic Kiri." Came the reply. "While you're down there, could you call your sister and ask her if she can start dinner?"
"Sure" I answered back to my mother." Where is she?"
"She should be out back" came the muffled reply
"In this weather...." I muttered to my self as I opened the door and slipped back out into the rain.
