Hello once again everyone! Today I am proud to bring you another gunpla review! For this review, we are going to be taking a step backwards in time and reviewing the HGUC Gyan 1/144 from the original series Mobile Suit Gundam. This is the revived version, so you'll see differences between this version, and the one that came out in 1999. The Gyan is a close combat MS, as you can see, and was a very unique MS than your ordinary zeon or federation suit. The Gyan was piloted by M'Quve, who was part of Zeon, his aristocratic and fighting spirit really showed thru his MS, the Gyan. Though not a popular MS, or character, I absolutly loved the design and I thought the character was really cool! The Gyan resembles a knight, which was awesome looking, I have soft spot for knight looking Mobile Suits. XD So without further ado, lets dive in and see how this guy holds up. wink
This is a very simple kit, and was so much fun to build! The articulation on this guy was perfect, and you can definitely see the improvement over the original one. wink The color separation so much better, with the dark blue parts blending into the lavender. The hands that they give you for this guy are two holding hands, that are used to hold his shield, and his beam sword, and an extra hand that has a movable joint in the wrist that allows you to move his hand in any direction while hes holding his sword, so it looks like hes fencing, just like a true swordsman! wink He only has two weapons, the one being his beam sword, which is so cool looking because of the design, it looks like a rapier, which is so much different than the standard beam sabers that you have. And he also comes with his shield, that looks very cool, and even though in the anime, hes seen firing out missiles from it, you can't do that with this kit, but that's okay, its still a cool looking shield. -Thumbs up- They give you a latch for the shield so you can either have it normal style on the side, or you can move it out, so it looks likes hes holding it with his hand, which I thought was always great!
All and all, this guy was so much fun to build and work on. He comes perfectly molded in his right colors, so all you really have to do is a simple panel line, which isn't that much, but it does add some realism to it. And if you wanted to paint him, you could do that, but this guy looks so good just straight out of the box. I don't want you to think that the 1999 version is bad, because for its time, it was a great kit and was really a step forward to how model kits are made nowadays. Without Mobile Suit Gundam, we wouldn't have the Gundam series, so I love being able to pick up these MSG kits, because the design and the way they look are still unmatched. I think a zaku, could easily go up against tallgeese "Fanboy Mode" any day. XD If you're interested in getting this kit, please do, you won't be disappointed! And if you haven't gone back and watched the original series that started it all, I would highly recommend you do! Below are the pictures I took of him, enjoy! smile
