"The Day The World Went Away", By Nine-Inch Nails...
That's What I'm Listening To Right Now.
Today, I Went Into The Humane Society I Volunteer At
And Casually Walked Into The Stray Department Where
My Favorite Dog, Azzi, Usually Is.
He Was Gone, I Figured They Had Moved Him To The Front
Where He Would Wait To Be Adopted.
I Strolled Around Checking Twice.
Azzi Was Gone.
I Asked The Woman In-Charge If She'd Known
What Happened To Him.

This Morning, My World Went Away.
Azzi Was "Put To Sleep" And Cremated.

I Cried...

The Woman Had Said It So Casually,
As If Azzi Never Mattered.
She Said He Didn't Like People,
Yet He Was Always Happy-Go-Lucky And Friendly To Me.
As Quickly As They'd Killed Him, They Replaced Him.

I Wanted To Scream At The Woman Who Informed Me Of His Death
"How Dare You Kill My Friend!" And Accuse Her Of Lying About Azzi's Demeanor.
But I Didn't.
I Quietly Finished My Job And Left.

The Woman Had Said "Who Would Want A Dog That Bites People?"

I Did...I Still Do...

I Feel Devastated...
Just Yesterday, I Had Prayed Him To Have A Good Family
And In Some Cruel Joke I Cheerfully Walk In To Find Him Gone.

My Exact Words Before Walking In Today Were
"At Least I Can Still Hang With Azzi"
But, I Can't, I Won't Be Able To

Ever.
