Chapter 5 Be safe in my arms
I ran into the medical center. In the waiting room I saw G.I.N. hunched over with his hands on his face. T.R.A.N. was sitting next to G.I.N. averting his eyes from everyone. I.R.I.N. was sobbing on the floor by T.R.A.N.’s feet. R.E.N. was leaning against the wall with his eyes closed. I dared to walk closer to them, but I did anyways. G.I.N. looked up. His face was flushed due to crying. Everyone’s eyes were soon on me. “H-How is he?” I tried to steady my voice. G.I.N. just looked down and shook his head. I started to panic. Tears started to reach their way out of my eyes. I ran into the hospital room only to find a very bloody and bruised mess of Master. G.I.N. walked by my side with his eyebrows arched up and tears flowing down his cheeks. I fell to my knees, tilted my head up and yelled with tears flowing down my face. T.R.A.N. walked in and squeezed my shoulder. My head fell down in defeat. I was sobbing now and crying as loud as I could. I made my way to the hospital bed. Master’s heartbeat was weak and had a lot of tubes and IV’s in him. “Daddy! Please! Don’t leave me daddy! Please!” I acted like a child, but I didn’t care. But why did I just say daddy? “Don’t leave me! Please I’m begging you!” I cried on his stomach gripping the blanket. I fidgeted and cried as hard as I ever had, just like a child in distress. “I don’t want to be alive with out you!” I buried my face in the blanket and clenched my teeth hard together. “Please wake up…wake up daddy….wake up.” I gripped his arm as the hot tears just kept coming. Then something hit me. My eyes were getting fuzzy and turning white; soon all I could see was white. An image started to appear. It seemed like it was an outline of a man and a little girl. Then all was clear. I was in an old fashioned living room. The carpet was tan and worn. There was a brick mantle with pictures all aligned on it: a man, a woman, a dog, and a little girl. I then hear crying of a small girl. I turn to face her crying in a man’s arms with her white lace dress stained with tears. I couldn’t see the man though, he was blurry. “Shhhh, its okay sweetie daddy’s here.” He rubs her back lovingly. “Don’t leave me daddy, I’ll miss you.” She said in a sweet high tone that was now being wobbled by tears. The man hugged her tight and wiped her tears. “I’m only going for three days, I’ll be back. You’ll see me again on our favorite movie day and then Mama will make your favorite food.” He said in a deep calming voice while he smoothed out her hair. She sniffled and hugged him tighter. “Okay daddy.” She then gave him a toothy smile with a couple of teeth missing. “That a girl Jane.” He smiled. Everything went white again. I woke up in G.I.N.’s arms. “Did I pass out?” I thought. “Are you alright J.A.N.E?!” G.I.N. asks with a worried expression. “Y-yea I think so, how long was I out?” “For only a couple of seconds. You were crying and then the next minute your quiet and you fell over.” He explains. “What happened?” “I-I don’t know.” I explained to G.I.N. and the R3N’s about what I saw and experienced. “I believe you have just had a flash back of your memory J.A.N.E. Only a handful of nanos have been able to do this. When you have done something that was strong and special to you in your past life now, you might have flash backs.” G.I.N. says. “It isn’t that rare of a thing, but it is strange for such a young nano as yourself to have those happen already. How long have you been a nano? Has your master ever told you?” T.R.A.N. asks. I shook my head. “Um, I don’t remember. I never asked Master.” I turn to look at the slow breathing man lying across from me and tears start to come again. “How did it happen?” I asked. “Oh sweetie, he was attacked by a large group of Staylines. Luckily we heard him because we were near by.” I.R.I.N. says. “By the time we got there he was already pretty much torn.” R.E.N. adds solemnly. “Where were you J.A.N.E.?!” G.I.N. looks at me harshly as if it was my fault. T.R.A.N looks at me as if he wanted to tell me to let G.I.N. know. “I…I…I was at Rhymo.” I lowered my head in shame. I looked up at G.I.N., but I don’t think he noticed because my hair was covering my eyes. His face was harsh and strong. His jaw tightened and fists clenched. “How could you?! After I told you- after Master told you! I told you not to go alone there! You could have been seriously in danger! We could have lost you J.A.N.E.! How could you be so stupid?!” Rage grew inside of me. I could feel my eyes changing to red as I clenched my teeth. “I am not stupid G.I.N.! Thanks to me I found out more than you would ever! It wasn’t my fault dammit! Silton took me when he bumped into me at the café! I thought I was doing the right thing! I didn’t want to see you hurt and I didn’t care if I died! As long as I got the information to the CIA that’s all that mattered.” G.I.N.’s face turned to stone. He looked at me coldly and said, “At least I was there when Master was hurt. Thanks to you he’s here.” My eyes turned back to blue and I hung my head. G.I.N. must have known how much it hurt me because he tried to grab my arm to stop me from running out the door. He was shouting my name. I turned back to see him with tears clouding my eyes. T.R.A.N. was holding him back; he knew it would have only made things worse if G.I.N. went to me. As I ran outside I could hear G.I.N. struggle to break free from T.R.A.N. and shouting my name. When I made it outside I ran as fast as I could to the beach. It was storming. Rain fell hard as it turned the sand into mud. The waves roared at me coming at high tides. I feel to my knees and screamed at the heavens. Rain hit my face making my circuits flow faster. I cried in the rain screaming and yelling at the world. All I could hear was G.I.N.’s words repeating over and over again in my head. Each time more painful then the last. He was right in a way. I shouldn’t have said yes, I should have been there with Master when he was attacked. I lowered my head and noticed in a tide pool; my own reflection. From all the stress I changed back into my regular nano self. I touched the reflection and watched the ripples morph my face. I had a father and a mother, but still I didn’t know much about my past. I would hold on to that memory forever. I stood up while the wet sand clung to my knees. Looking up at the sky I wondered how I was ever going to finish the case. Could I really be the hero? Or will I end up failing and becoming the villain? The wind blew strong. My coat and hair flew everywhere. Where was I to go now? I wasn’t going back to the agency now, not after the guilt was now eating away at me. Starting to walk I thought about the options. I decided on a high rated hotel on the edge of town. Everything was fantastic, but I missed home. I missed Master and the R3Ns. I missed G.I.N. Thinking about him and they way he looked at me made me want to cry again. It scared me. I’ve always loved G.I.N. and we were the best of friends, but to see him act in such a way frightened me. It was painful to remember. I laid on the bed while looking up at the ceiling. There was a mural on it. It was an image of the big moon with the whole city captivated by its moon light. The moon light was bright but the sky was a deep purple. It was almost blue. I got up and decided to explore the hotel. Receiving no calls from T.R.A.N., I decided Master hadn’t passed. The chip for G.I.N.’s calls was tucked away in my pocket. I had taken it out so he couldn’t talk to me or find me. However I’m sure T.R.A.N. will have to eventually locate me. Loud tapping came from down the lobby. I turned to see whose heels were making such a loud racket. She was beautiful and had blond hair tied up in a bun with a pin in it. I knew right away who she was. It was undoubtedly Victoria from Rhymo. She was dressed in Victorian clothes and stood out the most. I had her to talk, but she left quickly in a teleporter. I deflated. Another Rhymo member I lost. My board started to ring. It was T.R.A.N. “J.A.N.E. where are you?” “I’m not giving away my location T.R.A.N. I’m not yet ready to come back.” “I understand that, but you have a mission J.A.N.E. It’s an emergency. Another swarm of Staylines are attacking another container similar to the one you saw.” Even though I knew G.I.N. would be there I went as fast as I could. There were big numbers of them this time swarming in groups infesting the dock containers. I cocked my guns and took a deep breath. T.R.A.N. was to my right and G.I.N. was to my left. I.R.I.N. was on top of a tall container with her red face mask on. R.E.N. hid in a container holding his laser gun. I then spun away from the container and fired my pistols at the Staylines. They were howling now in pain with each shot I took. R3N and G.I.N. leapt from their hiding spots and began to attack. I.R.I.N. jumped down and climbed on a MechaStayline and slit its wired, metal throat. R.E.N. brought out his huge gun and fired with big blasts. T.R.A.N. pulled out his swords and lowered them to his sides. He grinned and ran with the swords at his sides into the lines of Staylines. They each jerked and sparked then fell with a thump. G.I.N. was firing with all types of his favorite guns that he kept hooked to his vest. A Mecha Stayline swiped at me but I rolled and dodged it. I grabbed its arm and twisted it backwards swinging on it onto its back. With my machine gun I fired it into the back of its head. It made a loud whining sound before it hit the ground with a big tremor shaking the others. I landed hard with a cut on my cheek from the breaking metal and debris from the robot. Staylines surrounded an already worn out me. I grabbed my machine gun and spun around shooting everyone I sight. One Stayline managed to pass the bullets and swiped at my torso, slicing through my shirt cutting me deep. Blue plasma seeped out and stuck to my shirt. I kicked its face making it spark and sputter. It howled in pain. I then knocked the side of its head with my pistol then shot at it with my other pistol. That was the last of them. I held my stomach where the plasma was leaking. Falling to my knees, I started to get light headed. Everything was going blurry and heavy. My feet and arms felt like they were made of lead. Everything was swirling and was making me nauseous. I started to lose consciousness when I saw G.I.N. yelling and running towards me. “G-G.I.N. help me…” The last thing I remember was him holding me up, and then everything went black. I woke up in the bright white hospital room. Everything was quiet except for the heart meter beeping my steady heartbeat. Next to my hospital bed was Master still pale and lifeless looking. Looking down and gripping the sheets tight, hatred was building up inside of me. My heart beat soon picked up and ran fast. Electricity was sparking from me as my eyes turned red. The bright white sparks were hitting everything in the room except Master. They flew across the ceiling and all over my bed. It soon exploded my IV and the heart meter. The electricity was getting bigger the more I thought about Rhymo, Master injured, and Silton. Soon the doctors and nurses came running in yelling at me to calm down but I didn’t care I blocked them out. One tried to come close but got shocked and flew back into the wall. He got up and fled the room along with two other doctors. Then I heard G.I.N.’s voice. “J.A.N.E. listen to me, I know you’re angry, but you have to try and calm yourself down.” Just hearing his voice made me spark more. What he said to me created more tension. “Stop! You’re going to injure innocent people! You could even hurt Master.” He pleaded. I stopped but my eyes still flaming red. Small sparks still flew from me. I glared at him still angry from what he said. For once in my life I saw G.I.N. frightened by me. “J.A.N.E… don’t hurt G.I.N.” I looked over to Master to was weakly looking at me. G.I.N.’s face lightened up and a shock hit my heart. “M-master?!” I was so happy he was talking I ripped out the tubes and cords that were in me and limped to him clutching my bandaged stomach. “J.A.N.E.” He put his hand on my cut cheek. “How are you feeling Master?” I ask anxiously. He looks at me weakly and blinks deeply. “Not so well. I’m not sure I will make it.” Tears form once more in my eyes. “Don’t you dare say that!” G.I.N. remained quiet in the corner of the room. “J.A.N.E. I am not in any good…,” He took a pause to redeem himself. “condition…. I’m counting on you and G.I.N. to… finish the mission if I don’t…,” He took a deep breath and heavy blink. “Make it.” I shook my head with disbelief. Tears flowed. I wasn’t about to do it without Master. Master eventually passed out again and slept. I slept with my head on his lap, blocking out the pain. When I awoke once more, unsure what had happened a few hours ago, I was back in the hospital bed with G.I.N. asleep in the chair next to my bad. I looked over at Master’s bed. It was empty. I gasped loud enough for G.I.N. to wake up. My heart meter must have been near busting, again. “J.A.N.E. what’s the matter?!” He grasped my arm. “M-Master! Where is he?!” I was almost yelling. “Calm down he’s fine. It was a miracle J.A.N.E. A little after you fell asleep on him he had no scratches on him or any sign of injury.” He smiled. “J.A.N.E. I think it was your electricity. It was made of pure spirit. Master said only S.U.N. had been able to harness such a thing.” I was in awe. S.U.N. and I shared the same pure spirit? What could this mean? “Listen J.A.N.E.” He averted his eyes from me. “I can’t forgive myself for what I said to you. It wasn’t your fault. I feel awful for saying that to my best friend and…and someone I care about deeply.” I think I died a little in side. I smirked at him and he gave me a shocked face. Laughing at his face I said, “Pssh don’t worry about it, what’s with all the corniness too huh? Man up, don’t be such a fruity flower.” I began to laugh hard and he joined me. We then embraced, knowing that he was to be forgiven. Master was going to be in a wheel chair for a while, but the doctor said he’d soon be out of it. T.R.A.N. and master had figured out that my electricity was definitely the answer to the miracle. Master said if I had cured him anymore I could have turned him into a nano. He showed me the faint markings on his arm that were just beginning to form from being transformed into one of us. Master said I was almost as strong as S.U.N. when I was fired up. “I think S.U.N. could possibly be related to you.” Master suggested. He rolled back and forth on his wheelchair, pacing. T.R.A.N. nodded his head. “It could possibly be that he was related to you in your past life.” T.R.A.N. said as he messed with a small engine part. “You have a pure spirit like his and almost have the same features as his. I’m thinking that he was your brother.” I was excited to know something about my past. Something then hit me and deflated my excitement. When I had the flash back and I saw the pictures on the mantle there was no picture of a boy anywhere. “Master when I had the flashback there was no picture of a little boy or anything.” I said now disappointed. “Hmm…” He was pacing faster now. G.I.N. focused on Master going back and forth so that his eyeballs were doing the same thing. “It could very well be that your parents didn’t want you to know of him. Maybe even a painful memory for them.” T.R.A.N. suggested fixing his face mask. Master nodded in agreement. “None the less we need to focus on bigger things now. I’m not saying your past isn’t important J.A.N.E. but we need to stop Rhymo.” I nodded. I told them all about my experience with Silton and then seeing Victoria. They all agreed on one thing now that I must do; I have to go back to Rhymo in order to find out more about Victoria as well as the last Rhymo member. This time there was no holding back. Silton still scared me, but now that I know that I have strength like S.U.N. I won’t hesitate to try and kill him. “Hello? Who is calling?” “Silton, it’s me J.A.N.E. can I come to see you again?” “Why of course! Tomorrow at twelve?” “Sure that would work.” “Perfect I’ll tell the staff to let you up when you come.” He practically hissed the words in his deep tone. Looks like I will be seeing you again Silton. You better prepare yourself.
