• Dearest something or other,

Dead silence, kills the mind. Changes the mood and forms a darkness that can't be seen through. It's not something you can normally feel. It's almost as if all time has stopped. Not a noise can be heard not even the animals make sounds.

I sat up in my bed and heard thunder in the distance. Maybe 15 minutes later the storm was here. Rain, well that’s what I thought at first but then I could hear it bouncing off the glass of the windows. As if someone were throwing coins It wasn't Rain, it was hail. Nickel sized pieces of ice falling from the sky as thunder sounded and bright flashes lit up the dark sky.

Again there was another storm. At that the house plunged into darkness. The rooms that normally made noise, such as a fan running or the air-conditioning, were dead silence. There was lightning again, but the thunder couldn't be heard. Even animals were silent. The darkness seemed to creep into my room and bright flashes of light illuminated shadows looming over the walls and windows. Shadows that seemed to be alive.

Every moment that went by was as if I were sitting there in darkness counting the seconds until I could find a way out of the unending night. But I couldn't. It was to quiet to fall asleep. No cars were out, no radios played. Nothing. The silence kept me awake... In a world where everyone else was fast asleep.

It's funny what my imagination can do.
