I tumbled through the portal and into the floor of my room. A quick around my room told me that it had been quite a match. No, scratch that, it looked like a tornado had been through here. Pictures were on the floor, the bed was torn apart, mattress laying on the floor and sheets hung around a dresser; rugs were crumpled up and a glass of pop had been spilled on the wood floor, not good.
I sighed and went into the bathroom, picking up a pair of black and lime green pajamas off the floor. I shut the door behind me and stripped down to my undergarments. I shivered, had the house always been this cold? Or was it just my mind, turning my confusion and worries into the chills?
Suddenly, there was a crash. Then footsteps, sounds of large objects sliding, and clatters of things falling came from outside the bathroom door, noises coming from my room. I reached over and locked the door, that demon, monster, shadow thing could still be in there. I put on my pajamas and took a comb to my tumbleweed hair, wincing as I pulled the comb through knots the wind had tied in my hair. The noise suddenly halted, leaving nothing but eerie silence. I picked up a pair of hair trimming scissors and slowly opened the door.
There was no monster. Well, not physically a monster, to me anyway. Dakota was sitting on the edge of my bed, head in his hands. I peered around my room. It was completely clean, nothing out of place, even the spill was cleaned up. I took a step into the room. Dakota’s head snapped up, his eyes alert, but when he saw me, sadness replaced the guarded look in his eyes as he slowly shut them and laid his head back into his hands.
I came all the way into my room, shut the door quietly, and leaned against the wall. He sighed deeply.
“Lilly, it’s not true, I didn’t use you. In the beginning, it was only for my benefit, yes. But, over time, I realized how selfish and stupid it was to use a person as pure and loyal as you. You have to believe me. Well you don’t HAVE to, but I’d prefer if you did. I mean it, now; I would never have pretended to be your friend.
I wanted to believe him. I should believe him. But I couldn’t. Something inside of me screeched to a halt and my body refused to let my voice come out of my throat. Suddenly, I realized that it wasn’t just uneasiness, I couldn’t move. I tried to move, but it felt lie I was tied to the wall. I looked down. Sure enough, the same kind of shimmering rope was coiled around me. I couldn’t move, I couldn’t breathe, and Dakota couldn’t help me, he couldn’t see the trouble I was in. Suddenly my throat was released. Without thinking, I called for the only person that could help me now.
“Will!!!” I screamed, almost choking as my throat tightened again. The door was thrown open.
“What’s wrong, flower bud?” Will asked, his eyes darting around the room. I was out of air, I was going to die. Then my chest was released again. So whatever it was had no intention on killing me. “Grandma’s knife” I got out. “Pocket.”
A look of worry suddenly came over Dakota.
“Lilly, what’s wrong, why do you need the knife…?” he trailed off. Then he looked at me more closely. “Will they ever quit? This is the work of the Frustums.” he muttered angrily. “They are an ancient group of demons that hunt down Lilacs and try to either dispose of them or turn them over to their side. You see...”
But Will cut him off.
“You can tell us about that crap later. Tell me what to do!” he hissed.
Dakota looked at the spots where my shoulders were pressed against the wall.
“Okay Will, see that spot between her chest and her arm, slide the knife through there.”
Will shot me a questioning look, I nodded and he cut the rope that was only air to them. I gasped as my chest was released. Suddenly, I felt light headed, the room started to spin, then…
Everything went dark.
