Genesis:
What am I doing back here anyway? Selena doesn’t need me. Juliann thought to herself as she was walking down the road toward town. The beads of sweat on her forehead and chest screamed that she was tired. Her brunette hair was pulled back into a ponytail and her icy blue eyes hidden behind dark sunglasses. The sun was high as she walked along the wooded road, carrying only a small handbag, containing her cell phone, driver’s license, and a debit card. The trees provided no protection for her as she walked down the road in the black tank top, skinny jeans, and her converse. Why did my car have to break down on today, of all days?
Juliann turned around shortly to see the distance she’d covered between her and the car. Should’ve known that thing would break down. An old ’68 Mustang. Of course. The sound of the warm Washington wind could be heard through the Douglas fir. She stopped and marveled at how far she had come on just dumb luck.
Chapter One:
“I’m so glad you where able to make it!” Selena, Juliann’s cousin, cried out when she saw that Juliann had finally crawled into town. “Trevor and I are just delighted, that you could come.” Selena grasped her cousin tightly in a warm hug. The girls clasped together, smiling. “I missed you.” Juliann said bluntly. Her hair was matted with sweat, strands of hair sticking out every which way. Her mascara was smudged, and her lip gloss faded. Selena stepped back to look at Juliann. “What happened to you?!” Selena exclaimed. “You look like you just stepped out of a horror movie!”
“Oh well, my car broke down on the highway. That is the farthest I have walked in three years. Seven miles.” Juliann smiled a weak smile. “They need to put in another cell tower.” She looked toward Trevor, who was talking with another guy. Trevor was huge compared to the stranger. He was about six four, while Trevor was about six nine. Juliann stared at him, not noticing her cousin talking to her. He glanced toward her, causing Juliann to look away. Who is he? Why does he hold my eye? He’s nothing special, is he?
“Juliann, are you even listening to me?” Selena looked over to where her cousin was looking, and smiled. “Oh, Aaron…” She trailed off. “That’s Trevor’s little brother. He’s really nice, but kind of a dork.” Now Juliann was paying attention.
An hour passed, and Juliann’s car was delivered, with all of her belongings inside. She sighed a sigh or relief, when she saw her bridesmaid’s outfit had not been wrinkled. Selena led her to the guest sweet, also known as Selena’s music room. Both of the girls shared a great passion for music, one having attended Julliard. A grin appeared to Juliann’s face when she saw that her old vintage guitar that she had sold to her cousin, was hanging up on the wall. The insets where hearts that she’s put in there herself, decorative details that only one with her eye could include in such a beautiful guitar.
