~ This was a character concept I came up with for a shop I was in love with. Children of Evolution. This particular Jareth (I love the name and have used it in a few other shops) Was a mutant who had the ability to become a living shadow. In this particular story he had just recently discovered what he could do and was, for better or worse, feeling out the possibilities that laid before him. As he was undeveloped I never quiet finished figuring out what sort of character he was going to be. Due in no small part to the shop needing to shut down. *Sad face* ~
Jareth was laying on the broken down sofa with one arm curled up behind his head and the other loosely draped over Sandra's waist. His girlfriend half laid on top of him, a contented smile upon her dark red lips while she admired the ruby ring on her finger.
"This is a great birthday present Jareth. I have to admit I'm surprised. I thought you'd have forgotten or gotten me some crappy CD." Sandra sighed for the seventh time and tilted her hand to make the gemstone sparkle.
It relieved Jareth that Sandra was so pleased with the gift. He had been worrying the past few days on what he was going to give her. Numerous reminders from her harpy b***h friends about how he best get her something good or 'it was so over' had not helped his anxiety when it came to picking out something. Sandra was a high maintenance girl that had been dropping hints that she was not pleased at all with her current boyfriends financial situation. Just two weeks ago she had coldly spoken to him. 'If you didn't have such a damn pretty face you wouldn't be worth my time at all.'. Her words had hurt Jareth. Not deeply, but enough to cause him a sulking fit for a few days. He'd also caught her hanging out with some other boys at random fast food places. Boys that could afford to have their own cars...and designer style jackets...and to order anything they wanted without wondering if they'd actually finish it.
It riled him some when he thought of Sandra laughing and flipping her hair at these other guys. Yet he kept his trap shut. If he said anything she'd get defensive. Or was that offensive? Call him a stalker or something worse. Jareth didn't want her to storm out and break up with him. Specially not now. Now he actually had a shot at making Sandra happy!
"So how'd you manage it?" Sandra prompted him. He could hear the curiosity in her voice. And something else? Suspicion maybe?
"Eh, it's your birthday gift. I can't tell you." he responded slowly. Sandra propped herself up on her elbow and turned to look down into Jareths face.
"You'll tell me now." There was no question, it was a damn order. Jareth instinctively frowned and felt himself tense up. Sandra's pretty brown eyes were narrowed and accompanied with a set scowl on those pretty red lips. If he didn't answer her she was going to pitch a fit. Jareth had been with her long enough to be able to read all the signs of a impending b***h storm. He forced himself to relax his shoulders a bit to make it easier to comply with his girlfriends demand. "I nicked it." He didn't need to tell her more then that right?
"I figured as much. No way you could afford something like this working that crap job of yours." Sandra's voice reflected her self satisfaction as she laid herself back down on Jareth's chest again. Once more she resumed admiring the glittering stone and jareth appreciated the quiet calm that followed. Unfortunately it did not remain calm like that for too much longer. "If you nicked the ring you didn't happen to nick anything else that might match it too did you?" Jareth could now easily detect the greed in Sandra's voice. His silence was rewarded with a swift unpleasant jab of a bony finger into his gut. "Guh! Sandra that hurt." Jareth grumbled. Looking down he was once again fixed with a stormy glare that threatened to unleash much hell if this feminine goddess of bitching was not appeased.
"What else did you nick?" She demanded. Jareth felt a mixed amount of aggravation and frustration. It was her damn birthday, that was true. He'd given her a nice gift. He doubted any of those boys that she hung out with would have gotten her a ring half as nice as that one there. What frustrated him was that it didn't seem to be enough for Sandra. She just had to get more out of him. 'Neh. Fine! Fine! I'll show you." Jareth of course gave in. Regardless of his first instinct to turn into a brick wall of glowering moodiness. His obvious agitation while he succumbed to her overbearing demands seemed to lighten Sandra's mood greatly. Together they rolled off the couch, and Jareth led Sandra to the back of the trailer to his room. There was a deadbolt on the door, something he had installed himself to keep his mother from snooping in his room while he was out. So it took a moment for him to fish the key out of his pocket and unlock the door to let them both in.
His room was a contrast to the rest of the trailer. Where as the place was a run down wreck, Jareth's room was fairly well kept up. The walls were more or less in good condition. Tack holes from various posters were the only things that marred the surface. His floor was clean, the corners swept of any dust balls. His clothing was piled in a heap inside his closet though, but it was a 'tidy' pile for the most part as the dirty cloths were shoved into a plastic hamper by the door. Sandra walked to his bed and flopped herself back onto the faded quilt. There she waited expectantly.
Jareth knew it was going to be a mistake to show her what he had. Yet if he didn't that too would be a mistake. He was always concerned with Sandra getting pissed and dumping him. So it was with a sulk that he dug to the bottom of his clean cloths pile and pulled out the army green messenger-bag stuffed beneath.
