Chapter 2: Awaking the Beast Inside
It was 5:00 p.m. and everyone was lined up ready to go on stage. Brett couldn’t believe how many students there were at this Academy. Standing in front of him was 499 students that had been at this school. He didn’t even want to think how many parents were in the audience watching the stage. Brett had always wondered why they had the ceremony outside. Now he knew why they did. The head master wore his best grey robes and had trim his white beard. The head master was an old, tall man that walked like he was 16. His grey eyes were full of life even though his face was full of wrinkles. He walked up to the podium and began his speech. “Welcome to tonight’s graduation ceremony!” His voice rang out over the crow. “Tonight is the night that these young students become full fledge mages. They will walk across this stage with pride knowing they did their best. Lest start with the red mage classes.” Brett yawn and walked around the back stage area looking for some fun. Instead he found Tucker trying to sneak off somewhere. An evil grin grew under Brett’s bandana as he silently snuck up behind Tucker. When he was close enough Brett shouted and Tucker jumped and made a high pitch screech. Brett quickly covered his ears and remembered why he never tried this before. Tuckers race created a sonic blast that would stun enemies. “Shut your trap Tucker!” Brett shouted as he cupped his hand over Tucker’s mouth.
“Looks like we got a little feed back” the head master said to the audience.
“Sorry Brett, you surprised me.” Tucker sheepishly replied
“And where do you think your going?” Brett asked
“Uhhhh . . . bathroom?”
“Yea right, get back over to the stage entrance.” Brett grabbed Tucker’s robes and dragged him back toward the stage. “Please . . . I can’t go out there!”
“Why not?”
“I . . .uh . . . got . . . um . . . ?”
“Too slow.”
And with that Brett shoved Tucker on stage. Tucker stumbled across the stage to where the head master stood. Tucker took his scroll and shot a dirty look back at Brett. Brett just innocently shrugged back. After two hours of presentations and speeches it was finally his turn to get his scroll. Brett walked across the stage and received his scroll. “This young man was the only black mage we had this year but he proved to be the best we had.” The crowed clapped as Brett shook the head master’s hand and received his scroll. “Please stand here Brett as we call out the other top two mages.” To Brett’s surprise Esther was called out for top white mage of her class. She walked across the stage with the grace of a goddess and the beauty of one. Brett tired not to look at her but he had a hard time turning his eyes away. “The top red mage is . . . Christopher Jones!” That made Brett’s blood run cold as ice.
Christopher Jones and Brett Didn’t exactly get alone that well. Christopher met Brett on the first day of school. Brett had accidently bumped into him and caused him to drop his books. Chris thought Brett was trying to embarrass him so he tried to beat up Brett. The after math was Chris was in the infirmary for a month and Brett got off with a warring. As they Carried off Chris Brett could hear him shouting, he would get revenge.
Brett knew that Chris would get his revenge on him right now on the stage. “Ready to die Black mage?” Chris asked with an evil tone as he walked beside him. Brett simply stood their quietly not responding to his question. “Too scared to answer?” Brett paid no attention to him. The head master reached into an envelop and pulled out a card. He then read it out loud “Now the top mage of this year is . . . Brett!” Brett was surprised and started to walk toward the head master to receive his award but a firm hand stopped him. Brett turned his head just in time to see a fist collied with his face. Brett staggered back and felt another blow to his face. Brett’s head pounded and he could taste blood in his mouth. Trying to pull himself together Brett braced himself for another blow. “You are not the best mage, I AM!” Chris shouted as he charged toward Brett ready to punch him again. Chris swung and Brett barley side stepped his attack. He continued swung again and again but Brett dogged every blow. “That’s it! No more kids stuff!” Chris shouted. Before Brett could react, Chris blasted an electric spell right at Brett’s chest. He flew back five feet before hitting the ground with a sickening thud. Everyone gasped with shock as Chris let out an evil chuckle. “No one is better than I.” He whispered as he walked towards Brett’s silent body.
