Tuesday
I didn’t realise it was New Year’s Eve until 3AM when I finished work on the AMV and checked the TV guide to see what was on (some obsessive compulsive habit of mine, like how my mum touches every gas knob and light switch before bed so the house doesn’t explode). By that time it was, of course, no longer New Year’s Eve but in fact New Year’s Day. And I find it a little sad that white people were down at the Harbour counting down and drinking champagne and kissing each other and watching fireworks go off, I was sitting at my computer playing Age of Mythology.
I turned the PC off, brushed my teeth and went to sleep. When I woke up it was 11AM and I finally realised that I would need to get out of the habit of writing ’07 after every date I put down. I wrote a bit of my meerkat book, read to the end of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, and worked a bit more on my AMV. It was nearly finished when Adam called me. As planned, he would be coming to my house tomorrow and by coincidence he had been working on an AMV of his own. We would watch and judge each other’s which, knowing us, could stretch to occupy an hour.
I think it’s safe to say now that Mark Haddon is my favourite author. It’s a shame that fifteen out of his seventeen books are for children, or I’d read them all.
