The best day of the year, my birthday, tears ran down my eyes as I heard “Taylor!” screaming for me. I couldn’t really see who was walking towards me in the thick, black, smoke. Feeling the floor get hot under where I was sitting, I noticed it was someone to help me! I didn’t say anything, instead, I waved, and clapped, and finally crawled towards the person. Not knowing who it was, they picked me up and started running towards the window. I knew what was about to happen, and I didn’t want it to. I didn’t want to be dropped from the second floor. Extremely afraid of heights, I began to drop; it felt like a mile fall. Finally, I hit the trampoline in my back yard. I blacked out for a second, opened my eyes and outside looked pitch black. Not knowing what to do I jumped off the trampoline, people racing towards me, and I headed for the street. Running, down past the Corner Store and then by the railroad tracks, people looking desperately for me. Hiding in the train station, I watched at least seven people go by. I slept on the bench outside the train station. The next morning, I woke up in horror, thinking what happened, why am I dirty? I slowly walked back to my house, turning the corner I broke down in tears. Kneeling on the hard ground I cried for hours. The only thing left of my house was ashes, ashes of clothes, beds, and brick. Nothing to look at I turned around. I man wearing a black suit with a badge stood in cold air. Lights blinded my eyes as the cold, brutal air ran them dry. Blinking fiercely as the wind continued, the man showed me to his car.
The man told me I was going to meet other kids. Not too thrilled, I knew I was on the way to a foster care. I said “WAIT!” that’s only if you have no parents. I had parents; they were back at the house, which burnt down. This couldn’t be happening. We made it to the Foster care a, small, drably, building. I got the top bunk in room 9. I waited 4 years until I found someone perfect. A 23 year old woman who was working to be a lawyer, she actually picked me! She lived in a 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom house. She picked me! That was the happiest day of my life, because my birthday 4 years ago sure wasn’t.
