• "Armin, wait…" Mikasa paused as if unable to find the right words, "I don’t want to be separated again." He looked at her softly but knew he couldn’t change his mind. His plan required they separate and he couldn’t let guilt or fear get in the way of their survival. He spoke plainly, “We have to do this, it’s the only way.”

“But why couldn’t you keep us together out there? You’re the one who…” she stopped, not wanting to guilt trip him.

“Because I need you out there protecting everyone else, I can’t always be the only one you save.” He continues, “Besides, I have Erwin and the rest of the scouts at my back. They won’t let me fall.”

“But without me there, what if…”

He embraced her tightly with the warmest hug he’s ever given and said, “Then I’ll just have to hope you get to me in time.”

Despite forcing back tears, she relaxed a bit. “I’ll always be there in time.” She whispered softly.

“Good, I wouldn’t last long without you. But for now,” he checked his gear quickly and looked at her with a smile, “For now, we have to be there for everyone else.”

Her sadness quickly turned into determination and she nodded, “Aye aye, general.” And they set off to start their battle.
