• So our main character, Kayla Brandon, is in the maternity ward with her older sister, Ann, for Ann's six month ultra-sound. Kayla is freaked out, if not a little scared, of the baby's heartbeat and goes for fresh air. She gets bad directions from a man pretending to be a nurse and ends up in the waiting area outside the ICU. There she meets out male lead, Ryder Oleary. His brother fell down a flight of stairs and cracked his skull open, landing him in intensive care. The doctors say he may not make it over night. Ryder, whose parents are off in Europe on business and can't be reached, is left alone and scared. Kayla feels and instant attraction to him but passes it off as pity. They talk longer then Kayla had hoped to and by the time she got back to Ann she was in a lot of trouble (not quite how I wanted to word this last part). Anyway, weeks go by and Kayla tries to distract her self with chores and college entrance exams. Still, the thought of Ryder nags at the back of her mind. One day during a bad storm the power goes out when the washing machine is loaded and running. Kayla, being a bit of a clean freak, takes her clothes to the local coin laundry mat. Seduced by ancient arcade games, Kayla pours quarters into the machines. She realize she doesn't have enough money left for dryer sheets and goes to the back to ask if she can just have a few for free. When she's back there she feels eyes on her. Sure enough someone covers her eyes from behind and pulls her to the ground. Struggling free Kayla sees that it is Ryder who attacked her. He leads her into the main lobby area so she wont make a scene, ushers her into her car, collects her wet laundry, and drives her to his house. Once there Kayla begins to ask questions, hard questions. After a while Ryder cracks and tells her the truth, no matter how crazy. Kayla is what's known as a (1. insert a cool creature name here), the offspring of human and (2. insert other cool creature name here), (2) being the offspring of fallen angels and witches. In fact she is the last (1.). Ryder is part of and elite group of humans who fight for the protection of (1.) from other "mythical" creatures that see her as ultimate sin and wish to destroy her. Kayla doesn't believe at first. In fact she doesn't believe until about a month later when she starts to be able to guess peoples thoughts easily and notices that she can suddenly bench 600lbs. Now that Kayla has accepted herself the mythical creatures sense her getting stronger. As they get closer Ryder and Kayla flee north to a safe base. On their way they meet a witch named Rose who decides to help them. Her and Kayla become close friends and eventually Rose helps Kayla to realize her feelings for Ryder.
