• The One I Must Protect
    Chapter 2

When I awoke, I found myself in a strange, unfamiliar place. I was completely out of it. I couldn't think straight, my vision was all blurry, and I could hear voices that were not familiar. My body felt so stiff as I tried to rise up, rubbing my head to try to make sence of everything that had happen. I wasn't sure how long I was out. All I knew was that it was morning. Then, my mind quickly went to Eda and worry hit me. I didn't know if she was taken away by the soldiers, or that she found a way to get away. I had if find out. I jumped to my feet, though they felt so heavy, my whole body felt heavy, but I managed to make it to the door. When I opened it, I saw two men talking then turning their attention to me. One of the men, who was way bigger then me, (I was so tiny compared to his highth and muscle size) with a short haired beard; he came up to me and slapped me on the back and laughed a big, loud, powerful laugh.

"Boy.. we thought that you would never get up.."

My head pounded listening to his laugh and his voice was just as powerful. I looked up at him, wondering if he knew anything about Eda.

    "Where's Eda..?"

"You mean that girl.. When we found you two, she wasn't looking so good. But she seemed to calm down a bit after a while, but she still isn't feeling well... If it wasn't for that bright light, we would have never came to your direction.."

I sighed in relief to hear that she was here, too. But then my mind went to the villagers.

    "Did you save anyone else..."

When I asked that he looked down as if he couldn't tell me, he was to upset to say, but I could read his face and knew the worst.

"You and that girl were the only two the we could save... everyone else was dead. There were no children there, we knew that the soldiers took them to train so the could use them for the army.."

My heartfelt as if it sank into my stomach as I heard him. The people we saw everyday, we grew up with, are now faded away from us. Why did they attack us. We didn't pose any threat to them. Why did they. I started to get scared as I thought more about it. I started to think that it was my fault, I've been hiding from them so I wouldn't get recruted and they found that out. Then my mind went to what the man said, the bright light. I remembered times when Eda, even though I don't know how she does it, would create a blinding light to get away, like that time there way a bear after us when we went looking for berries in the woods. Like ever other time she uses her abilites, she would get weak. I thought about what my mother said about not letting people who serve the imperial family, not to find out about her powers. If they didn't come for her knowing about them, then they knew now. And that thought made me think that now things were going to get worse.

"We burried all the people and marked the graves.."

I kept my head down and thanked him. Whats going to happen now?

"The girl asked to see you once you were up. I'll take you to her.."

I followed him to the room were Eda was. I slowly opened the door, peeking to see if she was up and she was and walked in, closing the door behind me. She was sitting up looking out the window. I could tell without looking at her face, that she was tierd and weak. I sat down on the egde of the bed and she slowly turned to me, her blonde hair mostly covering her face, but I could see her green eyes were red and puffy and I knew she had been crying, knowing she was told about what happened to everyone else. It was a rare sight to see Eda upset. She leaned over and held on to me, starting to tear up.

    "Everyone's gone.."

Tears started to roll down her cheeks. All I could do for her was hold her as she cried, until she fell asleep from her tears. I left the room, so she could get some rest and looked over to the same man.

    "Come with me.."

I followed him to a library. It was very large, with a lot of book. Eda would love to be in this library.

"Sorry for not introducing myself.. I'm Bron.."

    "Liam."

He went over to a large chest and pulled out a worn old book, and yet it still looked leagent. He blew off the dust and set it down in front of me. It was titled "Stories of the Mythical Ones" and on the cover was four diffent bnecklaces, one of them being the wing Eda wears. Eda wears around her neck. When Bron showed me this book, I pretened not to understand what he was getting at.

"Magic is a rare thing to see in these land... The ony ones who can use magic are the Mythical One and those who have been blesed by them... Those who are blessed by one are granted a gift. When given the gift, they are given the use of their powers.."

"So, what's your point?" I was getting nervous.

"That girl, Eda was it, is in possesion of a gift... The wing of fire.. She the child blessed by the Phoenix, One of the for Mythical Ones.."
