• Chapter 11

“Rian?”, my voice was shaking uncontrollably, “Are you ok?”

Rian lowered himself onto the ground and I sat beside him. “I can’t believe they’re going to do that to you, even after I told them how I felt.” He put his face in his hand. “What are we going to do?”

I pulled his hand away. “All we have to do is remove the bars from the window. Then we can escape.” I pulled the hairpins from my dress and lead Rian to the window. “See, they’re held to the frame with old adhesive.” I held a pin firmly and began to scrape at the bars.

He watched carefully as the flakes began to fall, a small and devious smile began to spread across his face. “This is brilliant Angel! Hand me one of your pins.”

I gave him a pin and he started scraping at another bar. We had gotten half of the bars free when I noticed how high the moon had gotten and yawned. “Rian, we can get the rest tomorrow.”, I said, tucking my hairpin in my dress and grabbing the one Rian still had.

“Yeah, that’s a good idea. Let’s get to bed.” He walked me to the pile, he crawled under the blanket and laid his head on the pillow, so I crawled beside him and laid my head on his warm, soft chest. “What are we going to do when we get out of here?”, Rian asked, stroking my hair.

“We could go back to Caelum. I think my parents would understand.”

“You sure they won’t hold a grudge?”

“I’m positive, they’re not the kind of people that would hold a grudge.”

“Thank God.” He tilted my chin up and gently kissed me. “I love you Angel.”, he said against my lips.

I snuggled closer to him and returned his kiss. “I love you too Rian.” I sighed, “Do you think they’ll have a date by tomorrow?”

“Probably, but don’t worry. The execution list is so backed up your date won’t be for a few weeks at the least. We’ll be gone long before your time.”

    “You’re sure?”

“I’m positive. Please don’t worry Angel, we can get out of here tomorrow if it makes you feel better, but you need to sleep now.” He kissed my forehead.

I sighed, “Alright Rian, good night.”

    “Good night Angel.”
