• “Wakey, Wakey!” shouted Drea waving her hand in front of my face. I opened my foggy eyes. “Wake up!” she grabbed my shoulders and shook me frantically, jolting me completely awake, except for my blurry vision.
“What is it Drea?” I moaned.
“You fell asleep again! How are you going to survive classes today?”
“Drea, I don’t know so just leave me alone.”
“Well aren’t you just pleasant this morning? I think you need a boost of good old vitamin C!” She smiled happily and dropped an orange in front of me. “Eat, Hai, right now. You haven’t eaten anything in days.” It was true, I hadn’t eaten. I felt so uneasy, and eating made me feel sick. The world started to blur into a hazy gray. “Please Hai!” Drea begged.
I grumbled, “Fine.” I jabbed my thumb nail into the citrus and started to peel it. The juice stuck to my hands.
“Well? I’m sorry that I worry about you!”
“Could you worry a little bit less?” I griped.
I sat up and headed for the door, I felt claustrophobic, the air becoming heavy around me. The hazy gray world turning darker, I weakly pushed open the rainbow papered door. The sun was intense against my foggy indistinct vision. I indiscriminately stared to run away from the cafeteria. The sound of my black dress shoes clacking against the sidewalk echoed in my ears. The clean atmosphere began to purge my mind, allowing me to think.
I stopped and took a deep breath. My hazy vision soon returned, revealing the trees that were dressing into their shades of orange. The air was cool against my burning cheeks. I silently closed my eyes, trying to regain complete consciousness. A cold hand wrapped itself around my mouth and pulled me in to more cold. I tried to let out a shriek of help.
“Now don’t scream, scream won’t get you much help.” A tall unbelievably beautiful woman was holding me in tight with her pale arms. Her straight hair was an usual snow white. Her eyes were a deep ruby, the same as the stains on her short, icy blue c**k-tail dress.
“Now what I am going to say to you, you mustn’t repeat to anyone else, no matter what. And if you do the penalty will be not be good.” Do you understand?” She continued. Hesitantly I nodded her icy hand still over my mouth. “Good. Now, you see, I was sent her on a mission, a mission to retrieve you. Well actually more so something you have. But then I realized something. You smell so sweet. I just can’t let something so sweet go to waste,” the woman dug her nails into my arm, allowing blood to flow out. She then knocked me wildly to the ground, plunging face-first into the pavement. The side of my face was coughing up blood, as well as my hands and arms.
I fruitlessly tried to push up my feeble body and stand, but I received no support from my right ankle. The woman then pinned me down by my arms with her mighty grasp. She then drew back one hand and began to trace the path of blood that tickled down my face with her slender bony finger. Graciously, she then placed her blood encrusted finger to her lips, and licked it. She flashed a dazzling smile, revealing a pair of pure white fangs.
“Delicious ,” she giggled slyly at her own playful banter. “I want more. I understand that it’s selfish, but I can’t help it I’ve been so thirsty lately, and maybe you might be able to quench my unending thirst.” She brushed my croppy hair off to one side, still having one of my arms pinned to the ground. She carefully leaned in, her rusty breath, warm against my neck. I cringed as she got closer, the tips of her lips brushing against me as she spoke. “Now don’t be afraid this will only hurt a lot.” She opened her mouth, preparing to latch on. It was easy to tell she wasn’t going to let me live, all she would do was drain me completely of any blood I hadn’t already lost.
I shut my eyes tightly, knowing that it obviously wasn’t of any help. “I do believe in miracles,” I managed to say; there was a high chance I wouldn’t be saved this time, a very high chance.
A deep growl emanated from behind me as I felt the weight of the woman fly off. I couldn’t bear open my eyes, not now. I hear a thud as the ground vibrated next to me.
The woman’s voice soon became curious, “Edan?” I opened my eyes without hesitation. The woman’s head was cocked, her arms pinning Edan down. “I thought that our little friend did away with you; and that you were dead.”
“Well, Kara, you thought wrong,” Edan said, his voice filled with anger and determination. “What were you doing with her?”
“Oh,” Kara laughed, “I was sent here by the rest of the Damned, it was my job to retrieve her.”
“Leave her alone!” Edan yelled trying to thrust her off, uncovering his own pair of sharp fangs.
“I wish I could, but it was my job, and unlike all the others, I prefer not to fail.” She smiled cunningly.
“Let her go!” Edan yelled, throwing the woman off, sending her flying. Kara hit the ground, her white hair mist around her. Edan stood up hand wrapped his hand around her neck. “You keep the hell away from her for good.” I could’ve sworn his seemingly black eyes had turned a bright yellow. Kara’s eyes had mimicked the intense color. Kara then pulled herself from the ground, and dashed away, only leaving a trail of flying streaks behind her.
Edan ran over to me, leaving the same kind of streaks behind him. “Hai, are you ok?” He carefully helped me up. I couldn’t speak, I was aghast. No words came from my mouth. I could feel warm sticky blood dripping on my face. Edan tugged on his blue blazer, bunching it up in his hand. “Here let me help you,” he said moving his hand toward my face. I flinched, trying to avoid him as much as my damaged body allowed. He gave a deep sigh and looked away. He leaned in closer, and naturally I cowered away. “It’ ok, Hai. I’m not going to hurt you,” he whispered compassionately, like he was talking to a lost child. I tried my hardest to remain still, though I was quivering with complete fear, as he wiped the blood the blood from my bruised face. The world soon became that hazy gray again. Tears began pooling up in my eyes and raining down my red stained cheeks.
Edan pulled me close embracing me. I didn’t bother to be scared by him. All I cared about was the pleasant nub feeling that was overtaking me and the black coated world.
