• I woke in a cold sweet. I tried lifting my head but it felt too heavy for my neck to bear the weight. No shapes could I see nor voices could I hear. It was dark and I was far from home. With my throat dry, it would be pointless to speak. It could also be dangerous. But as I struggled to my feet, my head spinning from whatever blow I had suffered, light struck me. I fell back down and winced as warm arms held me in place. “Don’t make any sound or sudden move.” Cool breath brushed against my cheek and my eyes adjusted to the light. My sister pushed the wall with a bit of force and it moved slightly. I rolled my eyes and placed my hands on the dark wall. “Let me help you,” I said and we both pushed at the wall. The light flickered faintly for the torch was clenched between Emily’s teeth. The wall opened and I realised it wasn’t a wall, but a door. More light flooded the space surrounding us as the door opened wide enough for us to fit through. It was then that I caught the first glimpse of the bedroom...
