After a long day in college studying forensic science, I was finally heading home for some relaxation. I had to stay after and help my friend with her homework since she seemed completly clueless about everything going on in class today. I thought she must have fell asleep during class after her fun night with her boyfriend....
Its almost 7pm now. My grandparents must be going crazy wondering where I've been. They've been like that since my parents died. They still think the killer wants to finish me off as well. I'm always telling them that he probably doesn't even know I existed, but they still worry.
As I pulled into the garage of my grandparents house, all the lights in the house were turned off and their car was gone. I parked the car, grabbed my backpack, and got out hoping that everything was alright. They always leave the lights on outside when i come home late. I opened the door slowly and poked my head around the corner.
"Grandma, grandpa, hello?" There was no answer coming back from the house. Slowly, I walked in and closed the door behind me. I set my backpack next to the stairs and headed to their room thinking they just went to bed and forgot the lights outside.
"Hello?", I said as I headed up the stairs. Every step seemed to creak more than normal as my footsteps became slower going up the stairs. My heart was racing rapidly by the time I reached the top. I walked straight to my grandparents room and opened the door. The bed was still neatly made and untouched.
I closed the door and thought maybe they just went out and left me a note in the kitchen. I headed back downstairs watching my surroundings carefully. Then, from the corner of my eye, I saw a shadow run from the garage into the living room with heavy footsteps. I knew my grandparents couldn't run anymore, so who was that? Thoughts raced through my head. Was that the same killer who killed my parents? How did he know where I was staying? Was he spying on me? How'd he find me?
I grabbed a pair of scissors sitting on the coffee table near the mail. Quietly, I made my way towards the kitchen. I stopped and took a peek around the corner. There were multiple shadows hiding behind the furniture in the living room. My mind was telling me not to move and to call the cops instead, but my body reacted first. I Turned around the corner and made my way into the living room, scissors grasped firmly in my hand, raised above my head.
The lights flicked on in the room at that moment and all my friends and grandparents flew out yelling "SURPRISE!!! HAPPY 21 BIRTHDAY!!!!" I dropped the scissors and let out a small scream. They all laughed and started giving me gifts. I looked at my grandparents who both had a smirk of delight on their face knowing they could brag about it later. School kept me so busy I completly fogot about my birthday today.
My heart finally stopped racing and I started opening up gifts. Julie gave me a new pair of converse to wear in my favorite color, purple. Mike gave me a gift card to Olive garden hoping he and I would one day go on a date. I keep denying him, but he just keeps trying harder. Tori gave me a new green dress and a sorry note for keeping me after for so long, but my grandparents planned for her to keep me late so they could set up everything. Kaitlyn Gave me $210 since I was 21 and had the bills folded in the form of an oragami flower. My grandparents told me that my gift would come after the party was over. They said they had something 'special' for me.
We all ate cake and ice cream, danced, and played some party games. By 10 everyone had headed home though. I thaked them for everything and told them I would see them at school tomorrow. It was at this time my grandparents decided to give me my gift. It was a small gift wrapped in purple wrapping paper with a green bow. I opened it slowly wondering what it was. It was my dads old personal agenda. They told me it was the last thing my dad had in his hands when they found him dead 12 years ago. The screen was cracked and the thing didn't seem to work at all. They thought I might be able to get it to work again or keep it as a treasure to remember him by. Tears started to come down my face on the thought of their deaths. My grandma hugged me, and we all headed to bed.
I pulled out a small screwdriver from my desk and took apart my dads PDA. I've always been good at repairing things around the house for my grandparents, so this shouldn't have been that hard. I looked at all the hardrive that the PDA had. Everything seemed ok. I looked at all the wired and saw that one of them had been broken off from the other part of it. I put them together and put electrical tape around them to make them stay together. I screwed it back togther and hoped that was the only thing that was broken. Upon pressing the power button, the screen lit up even though it was cracked and began to download the current date and my dad's old schedule and appointments. It finished and on the calender for today he had it showing my birthday. I decided to take a look at his schedule from 12 years ago until I found a saved draft from an hour before they found him dead. In it, there was only one full word, a name, Arthur. I didn't know what this meant, but I knew that this guy must have been the killer. My old instincts started to kick in and The only thing eventually on my mind was revenge.....
