• Chapter Two

    In the Forest next day

Kali didn’t know how to find him or any of the Magische Menschen. So she tries the forest between her village and theirs. Kali looked at her right arm to make sure the basket she brought was still there. In the basket were two sandwiches, a notebook and pencil, her famous mango tea, her dairy to write her thoughts in, and a compass. As Kali walked on she kept repeated in her mind what she remembers of the boy. He had reddish- spiked hair with a light tan body. Kali never saw is eyes because when he got up from the ground and ran the other direction.
She was also thinking of questions to ask him if he allows her to interview him. Kali stopped to pick up a stone when the sound of someone running came from in front of her. She looked up just in time to have a body run into her. Kali gasped as he fell on top of her. Kali felt his arms; she thought they were on Fire! Kali dared not move the breathless boy from above her body. As she lies there as silently as possible, she noticed that he had red hair that was wet from his own sweat and had dark tan skin, with cut marks from running into bushes.
It was the boy at the market place from yesterday. He finally lifted himself from Kali searching left to right. To Kali it seemed that he appeared to not notice that she was there. She observed him from head to toe. He looked to be average built for his age. Kali just got to his shirt, when she became aware of that there was a slash mark which showed a gash leaking blood. She watched as he leaned on a tree, slowly closing his eyes. She didn’t realize that her midnight blue eyes changed to sunlight yellow. Slowly reaching her gentle hand out she went forward to touch him. Before she could touch him, His eyes shot right open. He turns to Kali, with her fingers inches away from his face.
She looked straight into his eyes, they were reddish – orange. Without hesitation he jumped to his feet, while Kali fell back to the forest floor. “Who…who are you?” He stood looking over her for any weapons. Kali got to her feet and stood to a tree nearest to her. He walked forward to keep an eye on her. She watched as the more he walked the blood came out faster. She stood directly in front of the tree and answered him. “I am a lady, what were you expecting a log?”
He stood there rolling his eyes with a sigh. “What I meant was what your name is?” before she could answer he rambled off. “How did you sneak up on me? I have high-quality hearing; I would have heard you 20 miles away,” Kali was shock to hear him talk to her like that. “How dare you talk to a lady in that kind of tone?!” She yelled back to him. His eyes grew fire red. “Now… yo…u… listening…” Kali watched as the boy swayed back and forth until he past out on the floor. She gasped in horror. I pushed him to hard I shouldn’t have yelled at him. Kali went in her hackie sack, pulled out some clothes water and aid kit. She went to his side and started cleaning his wound.

    30 minutes later

He opened his eyes to the sound of rushing water. He felt a pain on the side of his stomach. He looked down to fine a cloth some what blooded wrapped around him. While thinking of what happening, he heard the most beautiful sound he ever heard before. It was a woman humming at first, but now she is singing. He turns to find his shirt to put back on. Great it’s missing too! He thought to himself. He turned in the direction of the voice to find the girl sitting on a rock near the river sewing up his shirt.
He got up a slowly as he could, not trying to bring in more pain that he already haves. She watched from the corner of her eye as he walked towards her. She placed the shirt and needle down gentle. She turns to his path with burning eyes of fury. “You are so lucky I was there when you fell and I saw that wound, cause if I didn’t I would have just walked away living you there to die. I am too kind of a person to see someone die,” he stood there quietly looking at his feet in shame.
He would never treat someone like that either. He walked to the tree planted right next to the rock and lean against it. Kali sat back down on the rock continuing sewing his shirt. “You don’t have to do that for me, I treated you badly with no respect. I am sorry, please.” His voice was dry from thirst so he sounded like an old man barely able to talk. Kali smiled to get a little of respect. “I take your apologue and in return I sew your shirt. I don’t want to send you home with people looking at you weird do I?” he shook his head as the eyes of his sleepiness takes over. Kali went back to singing a melody her sister taught her. He smiled to hear such wonderful music as he past out once again. Happiness took over Kali with her midnight blue eyes.

    A while later

“Um sir I need you to wake up. I have to change your bandages.” Kali gentle touched his shoulder, it was warm but not on fire like it was when he fell on her. He stirred a little before opening his eyes. He saw her with cloths in her hand with a smile of comfort on her face. He sat up to sit on the rock as she took of the well blooded cloth. He watched her face for a current of time before trying to see her eyes. When she finally looked up at him, his face was about two inches apart.
He smiled to her in a silly way. Kali tried to hold in her laughter as she continued to remove the bandages. “Dear sir I was not able to catch your name?” kali asked with interest. He smiled; he never was called sir before. “My dear lady I am Drako Drache, and what would your lovely name be?” She smiled as she worked on placing a new cloth on his wound. “My name would be Kali Nishikawa,”
Drako smiled to find out her name finally. He was going to help patch the cloth when it hit him. “Wait a minute are you Mayor Nishikawa’s daughter?” Kali gave him a glance and shook her head. “What the hell are you thinking of helping me! We both can get in trouble, mostly me because I am a Magische Menschen!” kali looked at him with fury while she poked his wound. Drako yelped in pain as Kali talked. “For one thing, if you keep on shouting you’re going to get tired really fast. Two I know what I am doing being near you and what could happening. I can take those chances and three you are a human just like me. You just got a bonus gift than me.”
He looked at her with amazement of what she is going against, her father. She apologizes while picking up the blooded cloth and burning it in the fire she made. Drako found his shirt hanging on a branch of a tree. Kali smiled; glad her mother taught her how to sew. Where she sewed, Drako couldn’t find the area it was ripped. Kali went to her basket, opened it and pulled out the sandwiches and drinks. She called Drako over to eat lunch with her. He accepted.

    Close to afternoon

The sunsets over the horizon kali and Drako as they start clean up the area they were sitting at. They talked for the longest time about life they were living in. While cleaning up, she smiled at the fact that Drako was not as horrible as she thought he was. He walked around for a little while thinking of how to ask Kali the question that been stuck to his mind. Finally he blurted out the word, “Do you think me and my people are a disease?” He didn’t really care what she thought about them it was mostly what she thought of him. Still smiling Kali turned to him answering his question.
“I doubt that your are a disease including you as well,” Drako smiled with happiness to know her thought. Kali looked up to the sun to see it half hiding by the horizon. She thought hard of how to explain to her parents why she was out so late and where she was. She placed all her belongs back in her basket. Kali stood up a little to fast and caught dizziness. She was falling backwards when Drako grasp Kali from behind before the forest floor met her, he lifted Kali back to her feet.
Kali turned around to thank him, but he was already helping to cleaning up. After the forest was spotless of the mess, they said their good byes to one another. As they walked back to their own village, Kali twisted towards Drako shouting. “I hope we meet each other again someday,” he turned to her with a response in return. “I hope that day will be soon. They both smiled and went on their way.

    Outside the forest

Annabel stood on the outside watching the sun set below the horizon waiting for Kali. She did tell Annabel that she was going to forest, but she forgotten to mention what she was going to do in there. As it got darker Annabel caught site of Kali coming out of the forest with a big grin upon her lips. She wondered what made that smile come upon her little sister. Kali walked closer to the town and soon found her sister.
Her midnight blue eyes turned to a shade of yellow as her smile slipped from her face. Kali ran towards her sister while yellow drops fell onto her gown. “I am so sorry if I scared you for being in there so long. Did you stay out here all day? But really I… I… am” Annabel grabbed Kali by the arm very gentle with love.
She smiled to her showing she wasn’t mad. “Don’t worry sis, I had a feeling you were gonna take long in there. Remember we’re sister, I know what you think sometimes,” Annabel hugged her little sister. Kali gave her sister a smirk of wonder. “I met someone today, but lets wait until we get home, ok?” Kali couldn’t wait, she grabbed Annabel arm and dragged her half way until they started running.

    At Kali and Annabel’s bedroom

Kali brushed her highlight brown hair at her vanity. She searched her memory of Drako. She played with her hair as Annabel came into their bedroom. When Kali was born Annabel begged their parents to let them share a room. Annabel did trust her parents, she just trusted her sister more. Annabel walked in the room with curiosity on her face. Kali ran towards her while grabbing her arm and hauling her to Kali’s bed right next to the window. Kali described everything about Drako, Annabel watched as her sister’s expression change to her excitement.
She wasn’t sure that if she heard her right or did Kali say he was handsome. Kali sat there with compassion when she gasped in shock. Annabel jumped as her sister ran to her basket searching through it very hard. “What is it Kali? What’s wrong, did you leave something in the forest?” Kali lifted her head thinking, now that you mentioned it I think I did. She found her notebook opened to the questions she wrote down. None were answered, “I got so caught up of getting to know him, and I forgot to interview him.”
Kali shoulders slumped in tiredness, she didn’t have the energy to go find him and it was already dark. Annabel’s jaw fell to the floor, “You were going to interview a Magische Menschen?!” She slapped her knee while laughing, “Man I wish I thought of that, great thinking Kali! Oh, next time bring me to meet him al’right?” Annabel winked to her little sister. Kali shook her head as her midnight blue eyes sparkle with joy. She knew her sister would never freak out like all the other villagers do. She knew she had to find Drako soon or she will get a bad grade for school. She knew they would be in the field picking the food. Annabel would be in the berry bushes while she will be in the apple tree field.
As the girls blew out the candles and crawled into bed, a little boy in a tree next to Kali’s window smiled. He thought for a while as he jumped to the ground as a silenced mouse, how he would explain to his sister what he just heard and saw.
