• “Lock him up!” were the last words Neptune said after a horrible day in court. Then I open a cell for a criminal to stay away for 20 years.

I say, “Bye, Bye, see you, NEVER!!”

“Hey vwow, Miss… Miss… Shranda? Is it? Vwell I mean c’mon, vu can’t let them lock up me. Vu know, you’re VWAY too purty to wark in a jail,” begs a pathetic-Duchy, as I roll my eyes.

“Miss Twirltail, come forth and speak to your king,” Neptune surprised me with a kind voice. “I have been told you are voted second in tail spins. Is this true?”

“Yes, your majesty. Voted second, oh but I am not nearly as proficient as my king! Not even close,” I reply after kissing his tail and ring.

“Well, may I see these wonderful spins? Show me… Show me your tail spins, do tricks! How good are you, really?” he demands.

As I am spinning and doing my famous tricks, I notice something shiny. One of Neptune’s guards hand him a gold coin.

Once I stop out of breath, I bow then… Neptune was clapping and laughing. I have never heard or seen him do any of those things before. When he saw my puzzled look he said, “You are the Best tail spinner and day celler so I give you a gift. I give you a pure jewel encrusted gold coin… Good night!”
“Thank you sir, good night!” I pretty much squeal with excitement.

As I admire the coin, I swim to the surface for a breath of fresh air. I have to get away from water sometime.

I swim down to what humans call a house; it’s a ship wreck at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean called Luna Rock Thunder Boat.

By the way I’m a mermaid.

Anyway… I glance at my underwater watch; I notice I’m late for dinner.

“Mom I’m home!” I yell once inside.

“I knew you’d be late. How was work? Did you please our king?”

“Yes I did. Look at what I got!” I show everyone my coin.

“Wow! That’s pretty! Where’d you get it?” all of my siblings say. My mom just stands there with expression I don’t understand.

“Mom? Are you okay? Neptune gave me this coin for being the best celler and second best tail spinner. You know I’d NEVER break the law, so stop with the face!”

“Take it back. GET RID OF IT!!! I don’t care if you earned it, JUST GET IT OUT OF MY SIGHT!!!” she screeches like she’s calling whales.

“But Mom! We need this. I earned it.” She swam out with her happiness in a box.

I swam into my room when all was quiet. In my room is a small desk made of parts from the Titanic. I grabbed a pen that uses rust for ink and a seaweed sheet (paper). I cried for a minute. I soon fell asleep before making a mark on the sheet. My mom must have kissed me and put me to bed because i had a kiss mark on my forhead in the morning and woke up on the sandbed. In the morning I got up and got ready then went back to work on that letter.
