Finally, Serena had her English class.
For a moment, she stood outside the classroom door, psyching herself up. This was it. This was the moment she’d been waiting for all weekend.
One of the other students belted into her, hurling her unceremoniously into the classroom, where she nearly crashed into the teacher’s desk. Mr. Goss glanced up. “Oh, hello Serena, for a moment I thought that Olivio had come into my classroom. Try to be more careful, would you?” He said.
Serena nodded mutely, and glanced over at her seat. What if Christian had seen her? What if he thought she looked stupid or something?
There he was, sitting in his usual place. He looked so angelic, sitting there with his bright blue eyes barely visible behind his partly closed eyelids and the ivory hair that hung gently in his face. For a moment, Serena couldn’t breath as she walked towards her seat.
Trying not to breath too loudly, she pulled out her chair and sat down next to him. She had to think of something to say to him… something interesting, something snappy, something he’d notice…
“So did you read the chapter over the weekend?!” Serena squeaked. Christian’s eyes opened fully and he gave her a detached look. “Uh, no.” He said simply. Serena nodded, used to this. Christian always simply seemed to have trouble concentrating on things that didn’t interest him, although everybody else just thought he was stupid.
“Well I made some notes on it.” She blurted out, and she began to dig around in her bag before she remembered that she’d left them in her backpack, which was currently in her locker. “Oh… I left them behind.” She said, dismayed.
“Um, it‘s OK.” Christian said. Serena shook her head. “Just… we’ll figure something out. Listen, I got you a present.” She said hastily, sticking her hand back into her bag. Christian’s eyes widened a little, but he showed no other change in expression. “Oh, really?” He said.
Serena’s hand clasped around the box and she put it out on the desk. It was fairly small and made of wood, with leaf patterns ineptly carved on it. “A box?” Christian said quizzically. “No, I got you a gift inside, the box is just a nice container.” Serena explained, and she opened it up for him.
Inside was the silver charm bracelet, lying on one side of the box, the storm cloud charm partly tucked underneath. “I know jewelry is a bit girly, but…” She said, then trailed off, not sure what to say. Christian shook his head. “No, it’s alright, but I can’t accept this, it must have been very expensive.”
“Wh-what? No, it didn’t cost much at all!” Serena said. “Just think of it like a friendship bracelet or something… I mean, I thought you liked silvery stuff, and it didn’t cost much.” She babbled on. “Um, well…” Christian said hesitantly.
“Please, it’s a gift. I don’t want to make you upset or anything.” Serena said pleadingly. “Um, well maybe I’ll try it on.” He said in a reluctant tone. Christian reached over for the bracelet, lightly brushed it with his fingers…
“Ow!” Christian yelped, snapping his hand back from the bracelet.
