    Chapter 10

tab Things were happening fast, but I guess I didn't have much control over that. Charles was acting weird; even weirder than usual. What I knew about what was going on was scattered puzzle pieces, but hopefully, in a few minutes, I'd be able to put them together, and have myself laid out a full picture.
    tab Hopefully.
tab I raced downstairs, the woman who's name still fails me trailing close behind. Charles' must've already been out, because he wasn't downstairs. I rushed to the door, and rammed into it. It didn't open.
tab "The door knob," the woman said. Oh. Right. I could feel the gaze of the cramped room of adults on me. I gave them a nervous wave "good bye", and opened the door.

tab I was out. I jumped into my car, and immediately twisted the key. I had to force myself to be a reckless driver, just for right now. But the question was, where did he go?
tab "Go to Doom's Street," the voice of the woman said from the back of the car.
    tab "What?"
tab "Just do it. Trust me. He'll be there." I nodded, and said,
tab "All right." I turned around to her, and asked the question that was still hanging in my mind,
tab "What's your name?" She paused, as if she were thinking if she should tell me or not. Then she replied,
tab "Sarah Peyton." The world froze. Peyton...that was my wife's maiden last name, which could only mean...
tab "Your my wife's..." She stopped me, saying,
tab "Please. Save it for later. We got something else to do." Right. We were playing a game. Or whatever Charle's called it. I thrusted down the lever, and said with a grin,
tab "Buckle up. I have a feeling this is going to be a bumpy ride."

tab I was wrong. The ride was completely smooth. I even heard Sarah chuckle to herself and joke,
tab "Bumpy, huh?" I cracked a grin. Things were going better than I thought. In no time, we reached Doom's Street, and just as Sarah said, there he was. Right by my place, and I'm sure that was no coincidence. I have him, I thought. Soon, I'll know everything I need to know.

tab I couldn't have been more wrong.

tab I stopped the car, and got out. So did Sarah, but not quite as confidently as I did. She gave me a nervous smile as I glanced back at her, but as I turned around, I saw from the corner of my eye that it quickly faded away. Charles pointed at his wrist, and announced,
tab "Your five minutes later than I expected. Your no fun. I thought you'd actually chase me." Yeah, well, you can't really expect one to chase someone else when you don't even knoe where they went.
tab "Shut up," I snapped, my feet firmly planted on the ground. "I want to know what's going on." Slowly, Charles started to walk towards me, a condenscending grin on his face as he said,
tab "I'd tell you, but you didn't catch me. So I'll settle with other ways of bargaining..." Suddenly, he grabbed Sarah by the neck, and pulled out something from his pocket.

tab It was a gun. He put it to Sarah's right temple, and looked up at me. Sarah's mouth quivered, and she squirmed, frightened as to what would happen next. I didn't blame her.

tab I froze. Absolutely still. I didn't blink. I didn't twitch. Charles just smiled at me, and said,
tab "You still want me to tell you?"
