Lustrous Blood
Prologue
As I ran through the summer snow, I caught a glimpse of a motion that distracted me on my endless plight through Montana; a dark, smelly, woodsy color. Without thinking I lunged at the creature.
Undeniable
My name is Ryan Eagle. I was born in 1990, eighteen years ago and I live in West Palm Beach, Florida. I am different in many ways; people always seem to like me, I can do different things (I’ll get to that later), I feast on human blood and my eyes are always blood red or black.
When I said I do different things, I meant when I meet other vampires I can use (or steal in other opinions) their ability, if they have one. I can remember their ability once time runs out (one hour), in case I need them.
As I was running, I realized I was thirsty. To quench my thirst I took a quick stop at a diner. The waitress smiled as I ran through the door. I gave her a quick nod then me and my sister took out the whole diner without any trouble.
“So,” Ashley said, “no complications I see.”
I still felt thirsty, but I could barley feel it tugging on my throat. I didn’t express my feelings because I knew she would go into ‘full plan ahead’ mode.
“Let’s go home Ashley.”
“Sure, sure,” she said.
Huntward Bound
Several weeks later, we found a new vampire in town to travel with. His name is Michael Go. We found Michael as he was wandering through our town, looking for more blood. I stole his power and was amazed. He could do the exact same thing as I could. I ran down all the things he could do. He had more abilities than I did.
I asked him, “How did you get all those abilities?”
Michael responded, “I spied on a couple of girl vampires and took their powers. How did you know I had them?”
“Same power,” I replied. “Where is this other coven?”
“San Francisco, California, at a place called Abraham Lincoln- wait why?” he asked suspiciously.
“The more in the clan the better.” Ashley piped up.
“Ok, lets go.” Michael agreed.

As we made it to Abraham Lincoln High, I asked Michael, “What do they look like?”
Michael said, “Konta sprecken Englisio.”
“Shut up Michael,” Ashley warned. “I made him speak another language,” she added, looking at my face.
We traveled through town looking for the ‘vegetarians’ of our kind. We stopped at a baseball game to hunt. When our thirsts were quenched, we moved to the last cluster of buildings.
“If they’re not in here then I will kill you personally, Michael,” Ashley warned.
Michael responded, “Como Estas?”
Trap
When we got into the building that was made of apartments, I caught scent of the sweetest perfume in the world.
“They’re here,” I proclaimed. “I have their scents. Michael, how many are there?”
“Quarto,” Michael said.
“Ok, lets go you two,” Ashley sang.
We ran upstairs and the scent grew stronger. We bursted into room 201, where the scent was strongest and saw a human boy with a vampire girl.
I shouted, “What are you waiting for?! Kill him!”
She said, “No.”
Angered I lunged at the boy. She rammed into my body with all her might and knocked me off-course. With a howl of rage, I landed on the ground and stole her power- instead of killing her- and used it against her. I planted an image that was supposed to torture her and she mimicked my move. As we were writhing on the ground, three more people barged through the door and stopped us both.
“Danielle,” one screamed. “What are you doing?”
The girl named Danielle screamed back, “He’s attacking Azera and me, so I’m mimicking his moves! He has the same power as I do!”
“Lucida Mama Mia,” Michael shouted.
“She’s a vampire and she’s not killing this human!” I screamed at the girl, whilst taking her power.
“I’m Ginger by the way and we hunt animals only. Azera already knows what we are.” she replied calmly.
I asked Ginger, “Ok, who are the two behind you?”
Ginger replied, “Oh sorry, this is Sky and Marylin.”
I took as much abilities as I could from this room and I just remembered Ashley’s power is to influence the five senses of the body. With all that just happened, we became best friends... and alerted the police.
On The Run
As we left room 201, Danielle said, “Meet me in New Hampshire!”
Sky started to protest, “But-”
“Not now Sky,” I shouted. Something clicked in my head and I ran back inside, grabbed Azera, knocked him out and jumped out a window. Danielle came outside with some stuff and we ran to New Hampshire, quickly catching up to the other five.
Danielle said to me, “Thanks for grabbing Azera, Ryan.”
“No problem. I saw the way you were guarding him, so I figured ‘I’ll make Danielle’s life easier.’” I responded. “Oh, and sorry for knocking him out. I didn’t think he would like it if I jumped out a two-story high window.”
“It’s ok,” Azera said, waking up.
Sky said, “Sleeping Beauty finally wakes.”
We all laughed at that.
“Follow the yellow brick road,” I muttered.
New Hampshire
We made it to New Hampshire and I went to hunt. Danielle dared us to hunt animals for the first time. I accepted her challenge and went into the forest. I caught scent of a very unappealing smell. I didn’t want to attack the stench, but I was very thirsty. I lunged and sank my teeth into the sinewy flesh and drank. It tasted like tofu and rubber mixed. Gross. I realized my eyes were tingling. Danielle found us and gasped. She gave me a mirror and then I gasped. My eyes were golden brown.
“What kind of voodoo is this,” I asked surprised.
“You drank animal blood so your eyes are a different color now. You paid the price,” Danielle said happily.
I exclaimed, “You crazy, little vampire! You knew this would happen!”
Danielle said, “I did.”
I grumbled and went to find a house. I accidentally ran into a real estate agent.
“Young man you look like you could use a home, is that right?” the man asked me.
“Maybe. What’s it to you?” I shot back.
“I got just the most perfect place for you to buy,” the guy said.
I asked him, “How much does it cost?”
He responded, “For you, I can sell it at five hundred dollars.”
“Ok, here,” I said as I shoved five hundred dollars in his hand.
“Right this way,” he said.

“I got a house,” I told the other seven.
“That’s cool,” Michael said.
I showed them the house. We made it and almost instantly Danielle wanted to paint.
“Please, please, PLEASE?” Danielle asked constantly.
I finally cracked and said, “Fine, but not my room or anybody else who doesn’t want you to.”
“Yay,” she cheered.
My House, Our House
The house was kinda pretty after Danielle was done. I wondered wether or not I should look inside the house. I decided I would and at that moment Danielle said, “You can’t go inside yet.”
I complained, “Come on, Danielle”
“No, we’re doing this my way, Ryan.”
I flinched internally. I haven’t heard my name in two months. I also whimpered. I hadn’t hunted humans in one week.
Danielle said, “It isn’t that bad.”
I showed her how it tasted to me. She flinched.
“Oh,” she said, “It is bad after two years of human blood.”
“Can we see the inside of the house, Danielle?” Michael and Ashley asked together.
“Absolutely not.” she replied.

Later that evening, I looked around the house. It looked like a mural was built in the walls. Amazed I asked Danielle, “Can you paint my room too please?”
“Sure,” she replied.
In The Morning
In the morning I looked into my room. She had painted all eight of us and in a chain she wrote ‘my family, our family’ repeatedly. I thanked her and someone knocked at the door.
Sky said, “I’ll get it.”
When she came back she had three other people with her.
“Greetings,” said the tallest one, “I am Justin and these are my companions, Kayla and Chris.”
“Ok. What’s your diets?” Michael asked.
“Animal blood,” Chris said.
I took their powers. I learned how to shield, shock and turn invisible.
“Why don’t you join our coven,” Marylin said. It was the first I heard her talk. I wondered how she got her voice to sound like bells. It was probably from lack of use.
As I pondered, vaguely aware that the three newcomers had accepted the invitation, I heard a car approach.
“Go,” I hissed, “It’s the neighbors.”
Justin, Kayla and Chris ran through the back door to hunt and I ran out to meet the neighbors.
“Hi,” said the neighbors, “we thought we would introduce ourselves. I’m Jack and this is Anna.”
“Hi Jack and Anna, I’m Ryan Eagle.” I said to be polite.
Jack said, “We were on a cruise to the Caribbean. Anna just had to check on the dogs.”
“Don’t worry about the dogs, Jack. My family and I will watch them for you two.”
“Thanks,” Anna said. “Their Shar-pei dogs.”
“Ok. Thanks for the heads up.” I thanked.
The Most Difficult Test
I hunted before I went to watch Jack and Anna’s dogs. I fed them, walked them and then went home. When I got home, I saw a note. It said this:
Dear Ryan,
We are hunting for mountain lions. If you need us then call Marylins cell phone.
The Family
Bored, I went to see the sights. I grabbed the dogs and we went for a walk. After the walk, we went home. I put the dogs back in the house and went inside. The coven was back home. I told Marylin it was her turn to watch the dogs.

The week ended and Jack and Anna came home.
“Thank you for watching our dogs,” Jack said.
“Our pleasure,” Ashley said. “And let us know if you need us to dog sit again.”
Anna said, “We will.”
A Test Of Courage
I walked through town wondering what I should do and then it hit me. I would start my own store. I got one thousand dollars from my bank account and I found a store that was run down.
I asked the owner, “How much do you want for the store?”
The man said, “Six hundred and fifty dollars.”
I gave him the cash and my car since he didn’t have one of his own. I could run home.
I called some major food selling companies and bought enough food to run my store. My store- The Big Ollie- became one of the biggest food stores in all of New Hampshire.
With the money I made, I started my own chain of businesses and donated to hospitals, police stations, fire departments, vets and animal shelters. I got some good friends and reliable resources.
The rest of the money went to either my bank account or refurbishing our house. The girls went to a spa for a manicure and a pedicure, while we men went bowling and hunting out of state.
When we got back the girls were gossiping on the couch. We went inside and watched television. I found a show called ‘A Test of Courage.’ I found out that ‘sometimes the truest test of courage isn’t dying, but living.’
Capture
“Put it on the news,” Chris said.
Kayla responded, “No. I like MXC.”
I snatched the remote from Kayla and switched it to channel thirteen. There was a killer in our town. I threw the remote to Chris and left the house. I went to open up the shop. When I got there, the killer was at the door.
He said, “Give me all your money, or I’ll kill you!”
I laughed and stole the gun before he could blink. He ran away, cursing. I shrugged and went into the store.
That day I made three hundred and fifty dollars. I went home and sat down on the couch. Ginger looked dazed.
All of a sudden, the killer bursted through the door, breaking it.
Upset I grabbed his upper arms and shouted, “Call the police!”
The cops showed up and took him away. Once they left, I looked at Ginger.
“What did you see?” I demanded.
“I just saw him!” she shot.
Were What
We moved to Montana, fearing somebody found out our secret. Azera kept pacing the roads and lashed out at anybody who bothered him. He wanted to be a vampire too.
“No you don’t,” I said to him one day.
He lashed out, “What do you know?”
Danielle, Kayla, Michael, Chris, Justin, Sky, Marylin, Ashley and Ginger all were arguing about the best way to hunt, in the living room.
“Get down!” I shouted, grabbing Azera and pulling him to the ground.
A woodsy color lashed out at us. I grabbed it by the throat. It was a werewolf.
He changed back and said, “My apologies. I thought you hunted humans. My names is Shawn.”
I said, “Apology accepted Shawn. Now go away before I get really mad.”
With that he ran startled. I got back to the house with Azera.
“I’ll be back tomorrow,” I said.
“But-” Ashley debated.
Danielle groaned, “Drop it, Ashley.”
I ran single-minded through the woods. As I ran through the summer snow, I caught a glimpse of a motion that distracted me on my endless plight through Montana; a dark, smelly, woodsy color. Without thinking I lunged at the creature.
