"You'll never catch me!" My heavy footsteps thud on the dirt. Colors blur past me as I ran.
"you dirty little-" his voice got cut off as another man further behind shouted something at him.
"slow pokes!" I laughed. As I got further ahead I slowed down to I looked back. Where are they? I put my hand behind my ear and listened carefully. Running footsteps slowly fade away. I scanned the forest, everything looked still, no one to be seen.
I grinned. I did it! I stole the treasure! I unhooked a small tan pouch from my waist containing the treasure and spun around with it in my arms. "Oh yeahh!" I shouted at the sky "Who's the master thief here?" I pretended to do a drum roll "Da da dunnn....its-" I shut my eyes and held my arms up in the air "Jin!" I opened my eyes and saw people rooting for me. "hey..you guys.." They were clapping, jumping up and down with big, bright smiles on their faces. Then the they started to fade away I dropped my arm to my side. I looked into the forest path where I just ran. The men are certainly gone. They don't ever come this far. I kicked the dirt. "Eternal forest..."
People say this forest is eternal because everything always looks the same. Nothing ever changes, nothing new ever grows and nothing old ever dies. If you crushed a plant here it would be crushed, but by the next day it'd be there like nothing ever happened to it . This forest also doesn't have any living creatures. They used to live here by hundreds, but one day they just all disappeared. I could never figure out what happened. Maybe they all just left because this place wasn't a great place to be in. I've been in this forest for years, seeing all kinds animals living here, why wouldn't they want live here? Every plant were luscious, flowers always in bloom bringing a variety of colors to the forest. The trees were enormous with the most beautiful color of green. Their branches and leaves reach all over the forest covering everything in light shadows. The suns ray pierces through the open spaces with bright, shimmering, golden specks floating around it like fire flys.
I sighed as I fell backwards onto a pile of leaves. I clutched the pouch in my right hand as I stared at the night sky. The pouch felt really light. Come to think of it I haven't looked inside to see what stole. When I was in town I heard those people where talking about how precious it was that I just had to take it. I lifted the pouch in the air towards the sky. small, very small. I opened the the pouch and took out the treasure. It glistened in the moonlight. "wow...shiny.."
I woke up as someone knocked on my door and came in.
"Princess, breakfast is ready" The maid walked to the right side of my bed, she held a tray of a perfect golden omelet with a neatly sliced orange in the shape of a bloomed tulip snuggled besides it and a cup of strongly brewed espresso. She put the tray on the table. "When your ready" She smiled and went over to open the curtains revealing the bright, morning sun, then she left gently closing the door behind her.
I stared at the ceiling ignoring the food, thinking about my dream. That boy in it had short, scruffy, brown hair and brown eyes. He wore a black short sleeved jacket over a light brown sweater with dark brown pants and black sandals. He had on a dark turquoise bag strapped from his shoulder to his waist. I remember he was running in a forest, away from these men. He stole something from them. When the men gave up and ran back, the boy cheered in victory then layed back on a pile of leaves. I closed my eyes trying to remember what happened next. He put his hand in the pouch and took out a...
"The queen wants to see you" A maid called out from outside the door. "I'm coming in" She turned the knob and slowly pushed the door open. She saw me still laying in bed, giving me a look of disappointment. She glanced at the tray of food that was untouched and sighed. She always does that. "The queen asked me to help dress you" She smiled. "You must look beautiful today, princess. It's a very special day" She said as she closed the door, heading for the closet. She scanned through the clothes. "Oh, this sky blue dress is elaborate. It will look great on you" She ran her fingers down the embroidery of the dress. "Wouldn't you agree, princess?" She smiled at me.
I shook my head. She didn't pick it because she thinks it would look good on me, she picked it because she wants to wear it herself. I stared at her smiling face. She smiles too much. Everyone here smiles too much, it's disgusting.
"Princess..." She forced a smile. "Try it on"
Fakes. Their all fakes. I clenched my teeth and grabbed the dress from her hands. I stared at its design, a little bit frilly with white sparkles at the bottom rim. I glared at the maid and she flinched then left the room. I slipped my straps off my shoulders and my white night gown slid down. As I finished dressing myself, someone knocked at my door asking if they could come in. I walked towards the door and opened it. There were three girls. The one with a curly brown hair was holding a red box, the second one with a straight crimson was holding a blue box and the last one with wavy jet black hair was holding a yellow box.
Terrific. I walked over to an empty chair and sat on it. The girls came in and set their boxes on the long mahogany table in front of me. The last girl opened her box and inside was a brush, some pins, a sprayer, ribbons, a curler and a straightener. She grabbed a brush and started working on my hair. The second girl opened her box and inside were nail polishes in different shades of colors. she grabbed the lightest purple she had, lavender, and started painting my nails. The first girl opened her box, the biggest of the three, and inside was a lot of make-up things, I wouldn't want to name it all. She grabbed a lip stick and started putting it on me. I never did know anyones. I closed my eyes as the first girl started working around them. I don't know why, but I was thinking about that boy in my dream.
I limped as I walked towards a hole under a big boulder rock. Gotta hide, gotta hide. I held my bruised ribs.
"He can't have gone far!" A man yelled out from far behind.
As I got close to the hole, I tripped and fell forward. "s**t..." I clenched my hand. My legs refused to get up. I could feel the vibration of the mens running feet on the ground. Since walking was out of the option, I did the only thing I could do, crawl for my life. My arms reached out, pulling my body forward, my legs kicking.
"This way!" His voice was closer, too close. Not enough time to...yes! I gripped the edge of the hole and pulled my body inside. It was a steep downward slope. The upper half of my body was in but then there was a problem. I couldn't fit the rest through. Oh crap! I didn't eat that much did I? The vibration echoed around me. I wiggled my body for dear life. So..close...then I stopped. someone grabbed my left ankle.
"Here he is! The little b*****d" Then another grabbed my right ankle. "Pull men!" The man roared.
My legs felt like they were ripping out from my body. "You don't want to do this!" I yelled. They couldn't hear me. I groaned in pain. "Guys, that hurts a lot you know!" I couldn't do anything. My legs were getting pulled out and my arms are dangling out in front of me, squished. "Grah!" I shouted as I bended my elbows as hard as I can, making a huge dent in the side of the hole. The dirt around me started crumbling revealing a large, long empty chamber right in front of me, or below me to be exact. It looked like a shape of a waterfall but wider. I stared at the deep fall, who knows how long it is. Now i'm actually grateful for the men pulling me back up so they can beat me to a pulp. Thats better than dieing I know that. They stopped tugging on my legs and started mumbling to each other for awhile. A thought crossed my mind. What if they let go? They couldve just abandoned me and come back later like they did last night. I clasped my hands together and repeated the words please don't let go, please don't let! And as if they read my mind, they let go of my ankles sending me falling to my doom.
to be continued.....maybe.
