Chapter 1- Fresh Start- Will’s POV

I couldn’t sleep last night. I was thinking. Tonight, I move into Elizabeth’s house with her. It will be our first night together. Also, I was wondering about the Dutchman. Mullroy as the new Jones? I just hope he freed my father. I’m still thinking about this when I hear the door open.

“Return to blacksmithing, William?” Jack’s voice sounds happy. I look up and his expression is mixed with happiness and thoughtfulness. “This is where we first met, remember?” Yes, I remember. Ah, memories. I’m suddenly in the mood for a swordfight. I toss him a sword for old times sake.

“Ready, Jack?” I ask, smiling. He nods, and makes the first move. As we fight, my mind rolls through a flashback of our relationship. It’s funny, though. It turns out we’re actually friends. His voice pulls me out of my daydream.

“I didn’t think it was possible, but I think you’ve gotten better at your swordsmanship, my friend.” My friend. It sounds so foreign coming from Jack.

“I’ve learned from only the best.”

    “I know.”

“Don’t flatter yourself, Jack.” Then I catch a glimpse of the sky. The sun is setting, and Elizabeth will be wondering where I am. After all, tonight’s a big night. “Jack?” I am going to tell him. I don’t know why, but I feel the need.

    “Yes, lad?”

“Tonight’s the first night Elizabeth and I are spending together, and I’m nervous about… well… if she… wants to… you know…” God, I must sound stupid. I always sound stupid in front of Jack. He has this weird power that makes you do so.

“Ah, still a virgin. I feel you know the answer to that one. Nobody knows you better than you. Now go, it’s getting late.” He takes my sword and puts mine back where it was. Then he takes the one he was using and slides it into his belt. Well, he does need a new one. Since when is Jack wise?

“Tell me, Jack…?” He looks up. “You were so close to immortality. Why did you give it up to Mullroy?” But, all he does is smile and leave with a

    “Goodnight, William.” So frustrating.

I fret the whole way to Elizabeth’s – and now half my- house. I walk inside and she appears at the top of the stairs.

“Beautiful.” Is all I’m able to get out. She’s the most gorgeous thing I have ever seen. I feel like I’m falling in love with her all over again. She smiles at me and I melt on the floor. All of my worries are gone by the time she reaches me. “I love you.” I say, and pull her into a warm embrace. She has the sweetest lips that make me never want to stop. Because we had an unofficial wedding on the Pearl by Barbossa, we still have to get officially married. I can’t wait. I’m breathless by the time I pull away.

I take a while to get ready for bed. I want to know what she’s thinking, and I want to know what Jack meant when he said ‘I feel you know the answer to that one.’ I’ve never understood that man or his insane logic. Elizabeth is waiting by the time I slide into bed. She bought a new bed so both of us can fit, because her old one was quite small.

“You take an awfully long time to get ready.” She teases. We sit there in silence without turning the lights off for what feels like forever until she says “Will, I’m ready.” I know what she means. We sit there a little while longer as I make my decision. I turn to look at her.

“Yes.” I truly do believe I’m ready. I believe we’re ready.

It’s warm and soft, just like her kisses. I can’t believe I was worried about this. I do believe I made the right choice.

As you can see, this is chapter one. Now, I wanted to let Jack keep some of his notoriousness (and yes that's a word!) because he completely gave up the one thing he wanted.
