Nobody lived at the dark house at the end of our block, but late at night, strange noises came from it. The house was built in the year of 1841. It was made of wood and had a seven-foot tall fence, old and rusty, with a little bit of mold. People spread rumors about it that long ago many murders had happened in it . The spirits of the murdered haunted every room in the house.
I could not take it. Everyone I knew was always blabbering on and on about that I lived near the house. What is so special about it? I needed to look it up, so I went to the library. I sat down on the old dusty chair and turned on the computer. I went to the internet, and then to Google. I typed in the address, “5236 Alison Way Sac. CA 95624,”. The results came up as haunted houses. I clicked on the one that looked like the house down the block. It showed me information about the history and how it got haunted.
“1841: A man named James Armistead built this house at 5236 Alison Way. This house is still standing today, but people are consuming it is haunted. Yes, indeed these people are right, it is haunted. James lived alone in it until he met a beautiful woman named Giovanni de Caprica.” I took notes on everything I saw interesting. “Fifty years later after the marriage of James and Giovanni, an interesting event happened. One night, James was doing his work until he heard Giovanni scream. He ran upstairs and found his wife lying on the floor with a knife in her back. Giovanni’s last moments were at 12:00 at night for she had lived for one hour after the stab.”
I did not want to read any more. I ran for home and spent the rest of the day looking through the window in my room, staring at that house down the block. I went to school the next day and told my friend Ashley about the house. “ You know, Halloween is next week,” she said. “ I don’t have a costume so I might not go.” I said to her. “ Great. I don’t have a costume either. Since we have nothing to do, we can go investigate the house! We could bring a camera, and get-,”. “NO!!” I said. “ How do get in? The gate is always locked and it is seven feet tall! how are we going to get over that thing?”. I glared at her as if I was a hawk. “ So do want to go?” she asked. Part of me said yes, the other said no.
Finally, it was Halloween. I decided that I would go, even though I regretted it. Ashley was already there with a small ladder in one hand, and her bag in the other. “ We are going to climb it?” I asked. She smiled and nodded her head slowly as to call me stupid. When we finally got over the fence we waited in the corner until 11:00. During the wait, I checked my bag for my supplies: flashlight, notepad, and some candy to keep us awake.
We went through a window to get inside the house. I listened closely for the unusual noises to arrive. We looked for the kitchen, but had no success. We sat down on the old couch that smelled like dead cat. “ Get out your laptop Ashley. I need to use it please.” I said. “ Here.” she handed the thin computer to me and I went to Google again. I typed in the address and clicked the same one I did before. “Here. Read this out loud, and start from the beginning.”
“1841: A man named James Armistead built this house at 5236 Alison Way. This house is still standing today, but people are consuming it is haunted. Yes, indeed these people are right, it is haunted. James lived alone in it until he met a beautiful woman named Giovanni de Caprica. The couple got married in 1853. Fifty years later after the marriage of James and Giovanni, an interesting event happened. One night, James was doing his work until he heard Giovanni scream. He ran upstairs and found his wife lying on the floor with a knife in her back. Giovanni’s last moments were at 12:00 at night for she had lived for one hour after the stab. James left her body in the same place for five days. After five days, he killed himself for he wanted to be reunited with his wife again.”
“Well lets start looking for Giovanni. Did it not say that James left Giovanni here. Lets look for the skeleton.” I said. “ Oh fine,” said Ashley. We looked and looked for a sign. “ Look! A staircase.” I said. “ EEEWWW!! What is that red stuff all over the steps?” screamed Ashley. She started to run the other way but I caught her arm. “What are you doing scaredy pants? It was you who said should we go in the house.” I said. We ascended the stairs and looked for Giovanni. On the inside, I actually felt a little scared. All my friends in the neighborhood say I have nerves of steel.
We reached a hallway. It was square shaped with a hole in the middle for looking downstairs. Ashley was on the other side of it and she looked frozen with fear. “ What, what happened?” I said to her. She did not answer. I stood adjacent to Tresseme’ and tried to see what she was staring at. There lying on the floor was Giovanni de Caprica. She was wearing a white gown and it was stained with a dark reddish color. About two feet away from the skeleton, was a knife, a knife as sharp as a needle point.
It struck twelve. above Giovanni was a white figure. “GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!!” screamed the voice. It sounded like a British woman. Ashley shouted out of nowhere, “ Why should we!!”. I thumped her on the arm. A big flashing light blinded us from the direction of Giovanni. Then the skeleton of Giovanni got up and started walking towards us. “Let’s get out of here!!!!” I screamed. I ran down the stairs and slipped on the red liquid. But, I got up as fast as I went down.
I ran out of the house and hopped the ladder and over the fence. I lost sight of Ashley. I called out her name but I heard no reply. “Oh man, oh man. My best friend is in a haunted house on Halloween. I wish I could have just stayed home and watched Spongebob!” I screamed. I decided to go back and get her. I hopped the fence again and ran into the house. I busted the door open and ran to look for her. But suddenly, the floor collapsed.
Trapdoors lead to secret rooms by a staircases, right? Then why am I falling? Maybe that was not in a trapdoor because, all I did was fall. I hit ground and it made me unconscious. I lay there for a long time, until I woke up. I realized I had fallen asleep while watching an episode of my favorite cartoon, SpongeBob Squarepants. It seemed like my wish came true. Like it was really happening… nah! But, I still wonder if I really did go in that haunted house down the block.
