For The Sake Of Dying part 2
-
John rounded the corner of a large tent, the shouts and the rattling of machine guns grew louder. He saw eight of his comrades ahead of him, hunkered down behind a makeshift barricade, taking turns firing shots at the blasted open gateway to the base. John couldent see beyond the smoke, however he knew what was beyond it, he squated down and slowly moved closer to his comrades. The enemy shot a volley of bullets through the smoke, and hit one of the eight men who were behind the barricade. His body shuddered upon impact of the bullets and he fell to the ground limp.
As John arrived at the makeshift barricade he didnt bother to see who it was that had gotten shot and if he knew that person. He never talked to most of his fellow comrades in the recon squad for he feared that he would remembered their names and would have to suffer from the emotional blows recieved from seeing them die. John got on the ground and crawled to the side of the barricade to score a couple of hits on the enemy. He couldent see anything, nothing but smoke, all he could see is the barely visible flashes from the enemy's guns as they fired.
Nothing, he couldnt see anything, but he shot his rifle into the smoke, he hated himself for doing so, for it was a waste of ammunition. His commander and once told him, "when encountering an enemy it is always important for you to spot him first, and if you see him first you sure as hell better take him down in one shot, because as soon as he hears your gun, he knows where you are". John stopped and waited to see if you could find a clear target nothing, he crawled forward a few feet beyond the barricade still nothing. He kept crawling forward, the gateway just 75 feet away, he still couldnt see anything but smoke. Why is there so much God damned smoke? John thought to himself. He kept going forward, the gateway was now 40 feet ahead.
The rattling sound of automatic gun grew louder, he could see something now, a faint shape of an object, he crawled forward a bit more, more of them. John knew that they were not the outline of a person. Then he saw a box on the ground on the opposite side of the gateway. Smoke was coming from it, John moved closer towards it, it was a smoke machine, John now saw the other objects, they were auto turrets, set up to simply shot at the inside of the base.
"DECOY! DECOY!" yelled a voice from behind John, "Grenade!" the man behind him tossed a grenade between all the turrets. John covered his face as it exploded and completly destroyed two of the and simple disabling the third.
As John stood up he could hear a faint voice yell "East side, east side, enemy aircrafts, east side" those words were repeated and relayed through the base as everyone rushed to the east side of the base. The three men who were infront of John stopped as they turned the corner was began to shoot. As John turned the corner he was 2 enemy unit carriers acompanied by five fighter ships, they were taking off. John began to open fire on one of the unit carries that was about to lift off. One of the enemy fighter ships turned towards them at shot two missiles, they both hit the ground before them knocking them back. John was forced back and slammed against a bunker wall. John felt a sharp pain on the back of his head, then everything went black.
