• “Why do I even bother? I should have known this would happen.” Amy Woodruff was walking home at about 8:00 at night after her boyfriend, Chris broke up with her. “Why do I even try to find love? They just end up leaving you anyway!” She sat down on a park bench, bawling. She was thinking about what she had done wrong, when a strange figure walked up. Amy didn’t even notice.
“Are you okay?” the figure asked. Amy looked and wiped tears away with the back of her hand. “I just heard you crying and thought you might be hurt, so are you alright? If there’s anything I can do, I’ll try to help.”
“No thanks, I’m fine. Thanks for your concern.” She started to get up to leave, but the figure pushed her back down. He then stepped into the light and sat down beside her, his hand still on her shoulder.
“Are you sure? Why are you crying in the first place? No one should be crying,” He wiped a tear from her face and she flinched at how cold his touch was. “especially not someone as pretty as you.” She looked up and it was then she noticed what he looked like.
He was wearing all black, covering a thin, slightly muscular frame. He was about 6 foot tall and in his early 20’s. The things she noticed most about him though, were his really dark eyes and bright silver hair. He smiled at her, disrupting her thoughts, and she realized she was staring.
“Uh, thanks,” she said nervously. He put his arm around her neck and she quickly stared down at her feet. “My name’s Amy by the way.”
“Amy, huh? My name is Shadow; at least that’s what everyone calls me.”
    “It’s a fitting name.”
“How?” Now it was Amy’s turn to smile.
“First off, you’re wearing all black. Second, you have really dark eyes. The only thing that would make you stand out is your hair.”
“My hair, what’s wrong with my hair? I LIKE my hair.” “Nothing’s actually wrong with it. It’s just,” Amy leaned over and grabbed a lock of his hair, “it’s just, it’s silver. If there’s any light then your hair will shine and give you away.”
“You think a lot don’t you?
    “Uh yeah, why?”
“No reason.” She let go of his hair and there was an uncomfortable silence. Shadow still had his arm around her neck and kept watching her. “So why were you crying? You sounded like you were in a lot of pain.”
“It, it was nothing.” Shadow could tell that something was bothering her because her face became drawn and her whole body grew tense.
“It wasn’t ‘just nothing’. Look,” he grabbed her shoulders so she faced him, “I’m not going to hurt you. I just want to know what happened so that I can help.”
“All that happened was my boyfriend broke up with me, that’s all.” She turned back around and resumed staring at her feet.
“Amy, I know there’s more to it than that. Why don’t you tell me? I told you that I’m not going to hurt you.” She looked up at him, tears forming in her eyes.
“That’s what they always say!” She buried her face in her hands. “That’s what Chris said before he cheated on me.”
“So, that’s your boyfriend’s name, Chris?” Amy nodded.
“Why are you so interested in me anyway?” She said changing the subject, “Obviously I’m not going to be having another boyfriend soon and I’m NOT going out with you if you’re thinking anything along those lines.”
“I’m interested in you because I find you interesting.”
“Why the hell do you find me so interesting? I go to my sucky school, and then go home to my sucky family, then go to sleep. What’s so interesting about that? You just met me.”
“I just find your lifestyle interesting. You know, where you hang out, what you do, who you hang out with.”
“What do you mean my lifestyle? What do you know about it?” She was beginning to grow worried.
“Amy I’ve been watching you. Everything you’ve done for the past few months, your friends, you and Chris, watching you in the shower.” He smiled as he thought of all the fond memories of each morning before she went to school.
“YOU PERVERTED FREAK!” She screamed as she got up. Turning, she was going to kick him but he caught her foot in mid-air.
“And we were having such a nice conversation too. Oh well.” Shadow let go of her foot and got up. Amy started at him. When she was a few paces away Shadow raised his right hand and she was instantly she was engulfed in black flames, his eyes becoming darker, if that’s at all possible.
“What do you want from me?” she yelled, “Let me go!”
“I want you, Amy, and your love.” He lowered his hand and Amy could freely move again.
She started to run away but when she got out of the light she found that she had somehow run right into him.
“But you were right over there. How’d you do that?” she said confused. He smiled and Amy grew even more scared.
“You don’t get it do you?”
    “No. Obviously, I guess I don’t.”
“You see,” he wrapped is arm around her waist so she couldn’t escape, “I’m a shadow demon, demon of darkness. Anything I want I can cover in shadows.” Instantly all Amy saw was black. “I can also teleport.”
“To where?” She was thinking about all the places he could hurt her or abandon her.
“Anywhere I want. Let’s go.” He grabbed her hand and started leading her away. Amy dug her feet into the ground to stop him and he turned around frustrated.
    “What?” he snapped.
“Where are we going? I’m not just going to leave the park to go with some stalker demon that can take me anywhere and abandon me!”
“You’ll see where we are going soon enough.” He smirked again as he dragged her off.
