“So...what do we do now?” The second tallest of the boys said, the one with the gorgeous dark blue eyes that were hard to stray from. We had just finished gathering supplies from our crash that we were all lucky to escape from with nothing more than scrapes and bruises. Before us, separated into three piles was our found treasure; one for blankets and similar stuff, one for scraps of metal from the plane, and another for more random, but useful, items. Around this pile we stood in a loose circle so that we could see each other clearly. The endearing little girl, no older than seven years old, still clung to my side, not letting go of it once while we were gathering these items. The beautiful girl who seemed slightly younger than myself stood close to the incredibly sexy man who had spoken first. Across from me stood the youngest boy with lighter blue eyes, that matched his white-blonde hair. He seemed cute enough. Next to him stood the tallest member of our group who had not spoken once. He had a mysterious aura about him that many might mistake as somewhat menacing.
The group of us six moved several hundreds of yards away from the crash, in attempts to forget about the loss and move on. Adjacent to us, opposite of the clearly visible ocean, stood a rocky wall that had an overhang carved into the bottom. It was surrounded on either side by a tropical forest. “Well,” I told him in a leader-like manner. “By the looks os the clouds it would seem that it is about to rain, so we need to set up a shelter and as for the setting sun...” I paused to look at the sky “...we also need to start a fire.”
“Shouldn’t we at least introduce ourselves first?” The youngest of the boys said shakily. The following nods from our group confirmed it. “So who wants to start...” the boy trailed off looking down at his feet, clearly not wanting to begin.
“I’ll start,” I volunteered. “I don’t really know what to say...ummm...hi? My name is Sarah. I am 16 years old...ummm...I don’t know what else to say...” Real smooth, I thought after speaking.
The little girl clinging to me spoke next saying proudly, “I’m Aden, I just tuned six.” She tightened her squeeze around my hand, now hiding slightly behind me, blushing.
“Okay...I guess I am next...” The gorgeous blonde girl spoke. “Hi I am Mina. I was one of the most popular girls in my school,” She said this while looking at the deep blue eyed man. Clearly attracted to him. “I am 14 almost 15? I don’t really know why this is so important. Anyway. Hi.”
Then spoke the deep blue eyed one. He held his head high with confidence and looked around the circle saying, “My name is Ethan. I am 16 as well, like Sarah,” he said glancing my way. “ I hope that our life on this island will be a good one? Okay... now this is just stupid. I don’t even know why we are doing this. Are we really going to be here alive long enough to care?” He had spoke with a nonchalance that seriously pissed me off. Especially as he said the word alive. Aden began to whimper at my side as she remembered where we were and what had happened.
I shook my hand free of Aden's death grip and began to stroke her hair in a comforting manner. Then, I covered her ears right before I glared at Ethan while saying in a menacing tone, “What the hell are you saying! Who the ******** do you think you are to say that? We are all going to live long lives and we will get off of this island. Understand?! Until then we need to do what we can! So, you need to double check your attitude so that we can all get along and survive. That is our first priority, not death!”
“Hello? Reality check sweetie. We are on an island, all alone, in the middle of nowhere. No one is coming for us. We are alone,” he stressed the last word while looking at me as though I was a naive little brat.
“What kind of shitty attitude is that! Come on! At least try to act as though we might live. And don’t give me that look like I am some sort of ********’ idiot! I am at least looking at the positives. We can survive. I at least know the basics, so lets try before we give up okay?” I had to uncover Aden’s ears at this point because she was beginning to squirm underneath my hands. No sooner sooner had I dropped my hands, Aden had placed both of her hands in mine.
Ethan didn’t respond to me at that point. He just shot me a dark look. After a couple of seconds of silence and looking at the ground, say for me and Ethan who were glaring at each other, the introductions began once again.
The youngest boy cleared his throat and began by saying uneasily while staring at his shoes, “Chris. My name is Chris and I am eleven years of age.” And that was it. We all then automatically stared at the last man standing, Ethan and I breaking our glaring contest in order to do so.
“Taka.” Was all he said while looking at the sky, practically whispering. I had to strain my ears to hear him. When he looked back down, we were all still staring at him. He wore a cool mask on his face, figuratively speaking, as we looked.
I broke the silence as well and stares focussed on Taka by saying, “We need to get started if we have any hopes of finishing before we run out of light.” I said while pointing to the sky filled with incoming storm clouds. And with a mutual understanding, we all began to work, some of us more reluctant then others. You could guess who that was.
