• Laura kept her running at a steady pace, but a fast one. Her breathing drown out all the other sounds surrounding her except for the sounds he made behind her. Her heart was beating fast, and Laura felt as if it was going to rip out of her chest. Her clothes hung loose at the spots that didn't touch her skin. They were ripped and stained. Her dark brown hair was knotted and fell far past her shoulders now. The only word that flashed in Laura's mind was the 'failure'. She'd been caught.
Laura sped up, hoping to loose her pursuer. She was glad that it was dark, so the chances of loosing him were better. He quickly gained speed on her and grabbed her wrist, yanking her back. Laura lashed out at him but didn't make any contact. The man pulled out a flashlight and shone it in her face. Laura knocked the flashlight to the cold, uneven ground.
"Let go of me!" She snarled at him. He quickly put his hand over her mouth.
"Would you be quiet?" He asked. His breathing was heavy. He had been following her for a couple of miles. Laura squinted in the dark and soon realized that this man wasn't a cop. She let out a sigh of relief and stopped stuggling. Her knees were weak and her head, throbbing. "Thank you. Now if I let you go, will you promise not to run from me again?" He asked much more gently this time.
Laura nodded and knew that she was telling the truth. She hadn't been with another human being in about month. He dropped both of his hands from her and stepped back.
"Why are you out here, in the middle of the forest, at night?" He asked as he bent down to pick up the flashlight.
"I don't have to tell you that." Laura breathed. He stood up and glared at her.
"Then will you at least tell me your name?" He asked, irritated now. Laura thought about this for a moment, not knowing if she should trust this man or not.
"I'm Laura," She finally said. He looked at her, not expecting her to answer.
