Darkened Firefly
She was unaccompanied in her thoughts that night, traveling along a road not taken by many; she questioned her existence and being. It had been long since she had wondered such thoughts, but there was a time for everything in her life, but this was an unexpected gesture.

It was dark and silent, the only words spoken, the soft whispers in her mind. It was a debate between it all, the confusion of being. Soon she found reasons, and wondering why. She just wanted to let go.

She knew she wasn’t wanted, because she wasn’t needed. She knew she was not liked, because she was not loved. She knew she did not exist, since she was unnoticed. She knew if she died, there would be no tears. No loss of love from her departure.

In her world the loneliness of it all was slowly setting in on her, the constant dawning drawing closer. Every breath she took was just another missed mistake of the unwanted silence.

She was alone as usual. Before she departed, she left the one paper which said the only words the world needed to hear:

This is my final farewell

It was enough said, yet it was still too much. Undecided thoughts still left to reflect upon, she departed into the night. The blood dripping endlessly, leaving tracks for her invisible followers.

It wasn’t long till she arrived at her final resting spot. It was a field filled endlessly with flowers. She never really did like them, but nothing in the world seemed to please her.

She stood there, the wind whispering long last secrets to be forgotten within the soil. It was something that she had not done in a while, stood there, against the world, and confessed every one of her hearts desires, and for one last time, she would enjoy the emptiness that she bought upon herself and drink in every last sorrow of the heart.

The flowers swayed back and forth against the pitch black dark, all the same, never leaving their planted spots. They never changed, and never accepted it without wilting away. It was how she felt, no longer would change be able to faze her in this act she played.

The blood dripping on the flowers turned them a deep red. The loss of blood was getting to her, so she sat in the crimson flowers. She only asked herself this,

“Why”

She was slowly fading away into the chaos, melting into everything she ever hated and feared, becoming one of the unknown wanderers.

As she fell over, she saw a single firefly. Lit, but slowing dimming out, as if fighting as if it had a reason to light up. To live. To continue the endless battle. Slowly but surely, he was giving up. She reached her hand out, and whispered:

“I won’t die alone”

The firefly stopped resisting the undeniable, and fell upon her opened hand.

“I thought I was going to die alone…”

And with that, the end of the night brought into the cold hearts of all. Her heavy eyes dimmed with tears of shame, her hands red with the blood of hatred, and her heart, sewed with stitches of love, came undone one last time. She let her blood spew over the world, and this one last thing she regretted would forever stain the ground.
