A Girl and Her Dog
She walked alone in the night, fearing everything she thought was light. Alone she stood there wandering, her mind far out there wondering. What was she said that day before, was he everything she thought, was he more? He said he loved her, those words filled her lungs. What words did she let slip between her tongue? And she said it and meant it, with all that she had, but for a reason she felt sad. She went home that day, laid on her sheets so blatant and bare. For some reason she felt barely there. Moments before she had loved another. He was there, but now he was the other. He loved her before and she knew that he did, she loved him before, and ashamed she hid. Caught in a moment, the twinkle of an eye, she was in love with another guy. No matter how many times she did deny it, she could never even try to defy it. An attraction so strong for a boy who was there, and a boy who she knew did care. The other boy loved her more than the rest, but for some reason, she did not feel the best. The second choice out of all the litter and for this her love turned bitter. A jealous rush of emotional sobs, she knew that being a girlfriend was not a job. She held her dog’s leash so tight as she clasped, but for some reason she lost her grasp. The dog did not go, and this she did know. She had no time to hold leash for a pet, and this she could never forget. She shooed the dog, now go away. Now being her dog, he did obey. Away he left there asking her head, was it really necessary to say what she said? The dog he left her there alone, with the only friends she ever known. The darkness within the silence crept in, and now she was alone forever sinned. She left her dog, the one she loved, for someone else, not yet beloved. But this boy made her feel, that first choice was for real. She missed the carrying of a dog’s leash, but finally, this was a release. She sat there one day, realized the boy’s dismay. She loved him, her dog, but realized through it all, that second was not what she wanted, and doing this left her haunted. The words that she told him, the times she would scold him, would mean nothing forever and more. On her heart left a sore, for she knew this would come, when she would mean nothing anymore. She left her dog at a park one day, and for some reason she felt okay. He seemed a lot happier with them, with no one who would condemn. Now she left the park, not wanting to hear a bark. And she didn’t because he seemed didn’t care, and now she was gone, but saying that wasn’t fair. He did care for her, really he did, he was her dog, but now she forbid. Alone the dog was left, and now his company he kept. The dog, held his leash through his teeth, and gave it to someone else who loved him beneath. The girl she still thought of the dog she deserted, sometimes when her mind was diverted. And she hoped that the dog was still there, because really deep down she still did care. She stopped by the park to give him a pet, but later going she would regret. The dog found an owner who kept his leash loose, instead of it tight like a strangling noose. The girl was happy for the dog’s new home, and with a new leash, he could start to roam. Away she walked alone that week, wondering why the secrets she’d keep. She loved the dog with all her heart, and now it was weird, to just depart. In another’s arms she felt so sweet; he really did sweep her off her feet. It was the little things he did and said, that would always be inside her head. Sometimes when he held her, she though of things she could prefer. She missed her dog saying things sometimes, but that was then, in different times. Throughout the riddles, throughout the rhymes, they would still be friends time after time.
