It was probably inevitable that after the monster success of Catherine Hardwicke’s feature film version of “Twilight,” that a companion book would hit store shelves. But who guessed it would be written by Hardwicke herself?

Publisher Little, Brown and Company has announced that Hardwicke will pen “Twilight: Director’s Notebook - The Story of How We Made the Movie,” with a release date of March 17. The title — mirrored after her actual notebook — will take readers through the creative process of adapting Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” for the silver screen.

According to the publisher, the book will contact “inside secrets on casting, location scouting and wardrobe to storyboard sketches, behind-the-scenes photographs, personal notes about Catherine’s favorite scenes and much more.”

"With this book, I tried to show fans and future directors some of the process that the crew and I went through filming ‘Twilight,’” said Hardwicke in a statement. “My challenge was to translate Stephenie’s powerful book and make you feel what she makes you feel when you read her works.”

“Twilight: Director’s Notebook” will retail for $17.99. It’s March 17 release date is timed to coincide with the March 21 release of “Twilight” on DVD.

Hardwicke — the director of such films as “Thirteen” and “Lords of Dogtown” — has seen her “Twilight” movie gross over $340 million worldwide. Her contribution to the franchise will end with the first film. “Golden Compass” director Chris Weitz will take over directing details for the follow-up, “New Moon.”
