Magical Art - Elemental Focus

The power behind the Elemental Magic, the use of the physical world, is Focus, pure and simple. If one cannot focus on a spell, it will not come to be. If one focuses too much on a spell, it shall be too powerful and harm when it needs to heal, hinder when it should bolster, and injure allies when only enemies need to be attacked. Break one's focus on the magic, and spells either explode violently, fade out, or just snuff themselves out in a blink.

Elements come in three forms: Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary.

Primary - The Elements Wind, Water, Fire, and Earth The building blocks of magic. Most mages can only use one of these. The most basic of spells, of all sorts, are derived from these simple blocks of magic. A practitioner of magic that uses only these elements is called a Mage. One who uses them all together is called a Wizard.

Secondary - The Elements Lightning, Ice, Mud, and Volcanic. The basic combination of the elements. Only some mages learn how to combine elements, and most do not excel outside the combos they learn. This level of mage tends to be called a Magi. It is rumored that there is two more elements, derived from the fusion of Wind and Earth as well as Fire and Water, but it is unconfirmed and thought impossible at the Secondary level.

Tertiary - The Elements Storm and Smog. Rare is it a mage who learns this level of magic, and feared they are as a result. It is unknown if any still learn these arts, but it is rumored that Storm (Fire/Air/Water) Mages are still taught in Heiryaku, and Smog (Earth/Fire/Air) Mages within less savory places of the Peace Sphere. It is unknown if any other fusions can be made at this level, however. The general term for this level is a Magos

There is a third Tertiary element: Steel (Fire/Earth/Water). It's relatively unused, but is rumored to be in the possession of the Mirumoto Clan in Spira. The Wood Element is thought to be Water/Earth/Air, but is unconfirmed.
