The sense of "self" is a framework composed of the images and concepts you have of yourself , as well as memories that personify the person that you are.
Should that framework come apart, the "self" will lose cohesion. In other words, it fades into oblivion.

Athrun: Anyone who has ever wept because they felt weak and powerless has had those kind of thoughts. Yes... But the moment you acquire all that power you've dreamt of, you become the one who causes others to weep tears of loss. Just try not to forget that.

Shinn: I think it's definitely important to avoid fighting whenever we can, sir. But if the enemy is threatening us, then we have no other choice. If we dont fight when there's an obvious need, then we wont be able to protect anything, not even ourselves. Innocent people who want to have normal, peaceful lives, should be protected!
Athrun: But there's a problem with that. A friend asked me a question once... If a person kills for veangance and then is killed for being a killer, then how will we ever find peace? When I was first asked that question, I was unable to come up with a good answer. And Im still at a loss. That's one of the reasons Im back here, back on the battlefield.

Murrue: We cant be sure about what's best for the entire world... But I believe we love this world as much as we do because of the people we love who are in it.

Murrue: I think everyone feels the same. That's why they struggle. And that's why they fight. But there are times when our methods, or rather, our thoughts are different when it comes to achieving these things. Even though the world is what it is because of those we love. Im sure Athrun feels the same way. he wants to protect just as much as we do. And that's what makes things so difficult these days. Im sure one day, the two of you are going to meet each other as friends once again. So dont give up, Kira. Stay hopeful and do the best you can.

To prevent history from repeating itself.
