Sometimes, before I go to sleep, my mind just keeps going and going about some journal entry that will never be read and enjoyed. Last night, I reviewed all the previous books I tried to write that I expected to be published including all the characters. You might find the aspects of this interesting, and I throw in a bunch of my sarcasm to boot, so sit back and enjoy I guess? I criticize my older self rather brutally.
Lesse, my inspiration to write was definitely the third Harry Potter book. It was the first I read because the longer the book you read the more points you got for this program called "Accelerated Reading". I eventually just got enough points to get one of those little animal heads that sticks to your desk and holds your pencil whee Anywho, I was thinking to myself, "Well if SHE got rich and famous from writing a stupid book about a boy with play-on words for a name, then I should be able to write something ridiculously awesome to rival her series."
And thus something awesomely ridiculous was born.
Attempt I: Caitlin Flourite
With the name of my best friend and an misspelled vital ingredient of toothpaste mixed together, this story didn't last long. The story consisted of a mixture of X-Men, Animorphs, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. Sounds pretty sweet, huh? Wrong. Caitlin Flourite was so based off of Harry Potter that it was definitely never going to get past the press, for it held a copyright infringment in so many ways.
For one, Caitlin had two friends. One a boy, one a girl. Quite reminiscent of Ron and Hermione, don't you think? Caitlin also had a scar of a crystal on the back of her hand. Sound like a spin-off of Harry's scar, don't you think?
From Crash Bandicoot, I stole the idea of collecting crystals. From Spyro the Dragon, I stole the idea of everyone turning to stone. From the easily overlooked game Dark Cloud, I stole the idea of flying dogs with horns and wings, like that of the beast Dran. Lamely enough, I named them Dranbies. Pitiful, isn't it?
I only got so far with this story--about eight pages on Word, to be exact. So then I decided to force another idea out of my head, mixing the same genres, but being somewhat more "original".
Attempt II: Crystal Star
In the game Dark Cloud, I named my main character "Juan" for I thought the game had rather Spanish-sounding music. I also took favor to his best friend, Paige's name. Which was Paige. So I made a story about a dork named Juan and an even bigger dork named Paige.
Juan's outfit was gay. I know I never use that word in that way, but it was most definitely gay. He wore a blue baseball cap, a green vest, a white shirt underneath, and blue shorts. And sneakers. What kind of fantasy hero is this dim-witted in fashion sense? Oh, I remember!
And this therefore explains why Juan had such an outfit. I was playing Final Fantasy X along with Dark Cloud, which...also contains very bad fashion senses...
Nice poncho, dude. Anyways, his outfit was GAY. Let's just leave it at that.
And his supposedly future wife, Paige, also had a hideous wardrobe. It was as if Goldylocks was reborn into a reincarnation of my brother The Slob. She had golden locks, wore an enormous pink bow on her forehead, and wore a poorly decorated dress. Scratch that, a plain, undecorated, dress. And she had a magical staff that did nothing. Or something, I dunno.
And Pinia. Pinia was the only thing of originality in this story, if you consider mixing together a blue dog with a ram, a butterfly and a parakeet 0_o;
The only thing that writing this story gave me was practice in developing characters. Juan was quite the gentlemen and a bit of the typical hero, Paige wasn't a typical young woman in a pink dress, and Pinia had a British accent and enjoyed correcting people all the time. Plus, the story was way too cliche, even if it was plagerism.
So, I tried to be less recognizable, trying yet another game-copying approach. This time, Golden Sun was my victum.
Attempt III: Sapphire Sun/Ruby Moon
So you have four elements: Wind, Water, Fire, and Earth. You have four gods: a giant purple bird, a Lapras-esque sea creature, a serpentine dragon, and a bear/dinosaur cross-over. You also have two stones: the Sapphire Sun and the Ruby Moon. One holds the power of water and wind, the other fire and earth. They both do something that has to do with the gods that I can't remember...anyways, there were chosen ones. There was a predictable ending. It was stupid. It was cliche. It was Golden Sun on paper with different names for the characters, 'kay?
The main character of Sapphire Sun was Kai. I never got to Ruby Moon, but I got to page 40-something with Sapphire Sun. Kai was a feminine man. He loved children, cooking, and gardening. Huh. And his sister, Haira, was an environmentalist, and also a drunkard =D His supposedly dead brother was Taike, and he was working for the dark side, but you weren't supposed to figure that out 'til the end...
Golden Sun spin-off. Forced idea. I shunned it after some serious contemplating -.-; I planned it for years, but it just wouldn't...y'know, BURST.
Current Attempt: Clairvoyant of Essense
Now, I can't say much because I actually do plan to publish this one. Unlike the previous ideas of mine, this one derived from no other plot. One moment I was running in gym, while the next I had an image in my mind of a vampire that could get inside the mind of the being she drinks the blood of.
It just BAM hit me. The main character was Alura, who was a tall, open young woman at first. Not to mention busty. But I eventually made her short, flat, and quiet. Rather young, too. She's kind of like me when I have no friends D:
Anyways, Clairvoyant is one of those stories about time travel. Similar to the Terminator as well, my all-time favorite time travel movie. It's very confusing if I try to explain it, but easy if you read it. I hope. It's like Ranma in that way. It's a love story, it's a dark love story, it's a sci-fi, it's a fantasy, and it has several twists. And I like it =D
And thus ends my progress through story-developing =D Someday I'll get to that entry of my analysis of when and why I started liking Cloud because I STILL can't pinpoint it exactly...
