The pull of thread,
To keep you cozy in bed.
A patchwork quilt,
That shows no signs of guilt.
One patch, black as night,
Like the people who had to fit for civil right.
Another a pale gold,
To represent the wise and old.
There a bright pink,
For the women who always think.
A light blue,
To represent the children too.
A patch of cyan,
To show the man.
A red square,
To represent the ones no longer there,
And a silver square,
For the ones not yet there.
Finally a trim of white,
For peace at night.
A patchwork quilt,
To show the world free of guilt.
