-
Blood spills and mixes with ash and soil.
Cries of anger and pain tear across the smoke.
As soldiers fall on their knees amidst toil
Of their brother and their injured foe.
Weapons fired aimlessly into wave
Of warrior after warrior, who
Fight for the honor of the lives they save
Or the gods and leaders they now bow to.
A bullet in the temple, a leg now
Severed, lost to gangrene and injury.
Are these the trophies for which we will bow?
When will the fighting end? The blind fury?
The smoke clears, and they have the victory.
But what have they won amongst the bodies?

- Description: A sonnet I wrote about war. Since sonnets are traditionally associated with and written about love, I decided to do the opposite. Please let me know what you honestly think of it.
