You fake a smile and turn around
But we're all lonely in the end.
You look for hope that can't be found
Because I won't be weak again.
The pain it hurts, but it subsides,
With time comes tolerance.
Many people have done tried
But I won't give them the chance.
I am an inmate of the prison
That lies deep inside of me.
After years with none to confide in
I cannot function in society.
They see my heart, a heart of steel,
But not who I truly am.
They say if you’re human then you can feel
But the truth is that I can't.
I feel no hate, I shed no tears,
I have no soul inside.
Others have dreams, they have fears,
But I just tossed mine aside.
It wasn't hard to let it go
And forget my humanity.
I just thought of what I know
And what I want to be.
Soon before I knew it was gone
I cared for nothing anymore.
That was when I realized what I'd done
And the pain I must endure.
It's harder to do than most believe,
And not as relieving when you know.
It's true that you’re completely empty
But there’s a longing when it goes.
