Fading memories
Of a past life in shambles
Haunt me while I dream awake
Teaching me my happiness is but a gamble
And as I lay beneath this tree
With music soaring softly
Its imaginary picturesque image
With mountains being oh so lofty
If I dream away my life
And ignore this taunting sorrow
Then I'll be nothing but a loon
Who forgets about tomorrow
And if I dwell upon
The horrors of my past
And let them engulf my being
My existence surely will not last
So heed my plan if you please
Of self reliance and preservation
A moral sense of reality
Or else I be pulled away by temptation
I refuse to believe I may only
Be happy when someone is near
I'll depend upon my self to forget
That indeed unhappiness was here
So remind me not of the past
And please ignore my treacherous sinning
Be a dear friend and stay for now
Least I be right from the beginning.

- I think this poem has a lot of potential. smile However, I think this would be far better as free verse only because the rhyming scheme isn't consistent and some of the choice words appear forced. The message is extremely clear, which is great, but I think it could be expressed far better if it was "less structured". Rhyming is so 1700s anyway. ;D
